Description
UNITED NSTATES PATENT Orric M. B. FOOTE, OF NORTIIAMPTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 79,746, dated July 7, 1868.
T0 all whom il? may concern:
Be it known that I, M. B. FooTE, of Northampton, in the county of Hampshire, and in the State of Massachusetts, have invented cer tain new and useful Improvements in Glove- Fastenings; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in the arrangement of a metal chain attached tobuttons, springs, and screws, for the purpose of fastening gloves at the wrist, and arranged in such a manner that the whole can be taken 0H one pair of gloves and put on to another.
This glove-fastener can be made of any material desired, and if made strong will last a life-time, as `it need not be thrown away with every pair ot' gloves, but can be moved from one to another.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the Vannexed drawings, which forni a part of this specication, and in which- Figure l is a plan view of the glove-fastener attached to a glove, and Fig. 2 is a side sec-` tional View of the button with spring and screw attached.
A represents the front part of a glove, to Y which mygloVe-fastener is attached. B B are buttons, made of any material and design desired, to the bottom of which button-springs C are secured. These springs extend beyond the buttons, and are bent underneath, and through the lower end of the spring a headed screw, D, passes, which is screwed up into the button, as shown in Fig. 2. The glove is passed between the two sides of the spring, so that the screw D will pass through the glove when it is screwed into the button.
The metal chain E is fastened to the bend of one of the springs, and passes through a hole, a, in the other, and is held at any point desired by means of a small latch, F, attached to the upper part of the spring, for by any other suitable device answering the same purpose.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is`
l. The combination of the button B, spring C, `and screw D, arranged and operating substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth. p
2. The combination of the buttons B B, metal chain E, and lever F, when the several parts are constructed, arranged, and used substantially as and for the purposes specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this `ldlth day of May, 1868.
M. B. FOOTE.
