Letters Pateat'No. 93,246, datcl .August 3, 1869.
IIIMPIR.OVIEHMIEN'.l'.' IN SAI'ETY WATCH-POCKTS.
The Schedule refen'ed to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may conce'n Be it known that I, WILLIAM O. SUMNER, of Brooklyn, E. D., Kings county, New York, have in- Yenterl a new and useful Improvement in.Pocket .\Vatcli-Safe; and I do hereby declare that the following is a' full, clear, and ekact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
In the drawings- Figure 1 represents a side view of 'my improved watch-safe, showing the spring-catch or latch applied;
Fignre 2 is a side view, opposite to that shown in fig. 1; and 1 Figure 3 is an edge'view of one of the sections at- 'tached to the pocket, shown in red.
fully descn'b'e'd on reference to the drawings.
In the drawings- A and B represent the two parts of a case, made of any suitable material, and of a proper form to enclose a watch, except the sten1,when closed, 'which are hinged together at O, and constructed in any suitable manner to provide an opening at the top,'for the stein of a watch, or for a portion of the case where' the steni is connected,- to protrnde, as shown in red, at D.
The part A is provided with a spring-latch, E, pivoted at F, and connected at one end to the spiral spring G, which is secnred to the case in any suitable inanner, and arranged so as to have a Constant tendency `to bear the catch against the pin H, which limits the movelnent of that end of the catch in the direction of the fixed end of the said spring.
The opposite end of the catch is provided with a thumb-stud, I, and, near the stud, with a notch, which hooks into a stud, K, fixed in the part B of the case, and so an'anged, with reference to the catch and stnd H, that when the spring draws the catch down against said st-nd, the catch will be hooked by the aforesaid notch, into the stud K, and the two parts, A and B, be locked together.
On the opposite side of the safe a spring-plate, L, is secnred to the part A, and providcdwith a notch, M, and the part B is provided with a stnd or pin, N, so arranged, with reference to the notch in the plate L, that when the two parts have been wide enough, it will-fall into the said notch, and arrest the fort-her unnecessary opening of the parts.
Within the safe, and in any convenient manner, at the bot-toin-the1'eof, may be a'rranged a spring, se-
:cured to one part, and so 'bearing against the other, .'as to throw the parts open when the catch is disengaged from the pin K. I
Having thus described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The pocket watch-safe, constrncted as described, of the parts A B, hinged together at C, and provided with the pivoted notched latch E, spring G, pins H K N, and notched 'spring-plate L, all constructed and arranged as described, for the purpose specified.
The above specification of niy invention signed by me, this 26th day of May, 1868.
* WM. O. UMNER.
