Description
AARON McNEILL, OF CINCINNATI, OHO
Letters Patent No. 77,068, dated April 21, 1868.
IMPROVEMENT IN SAFETY-ATTAGHMENT FON POCKET-BOOKS.
@the ,tlgshult referat in in time @stints 35mm mit mating @im ni 'tige same:
TO .ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN l A Be it known that I, AARON McNEILL, of'Oin'cinnati, `in `the county of Hamilton, and State of Ohio, have invented .a new and useful Safety-Attachment for Pocket-Books, &c.; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, .refe'rence being had to the accompanying drawing which forms part 'of this-specification.
lMy invention consists of achain or strap, secured to thebottom of the pocket b y a button or other suitable means, and provided at its loose end with a spring-catch, which engageswith afsocket attached to the article to be secured forA thevpurpose of preventing itsabstraction without the ownersv knowledge. In the drawings- A'Figure lisa sectional View of the socket, catch, and a part of its attaching-chain.
Figure 2 is a view of the complete device, attached to a pocket-book. v
A B may represent a metallic socket, which is attachedto the pocket-book F, or other article to be secured, by rivets or other suitable means. O isis, spring-catch, ivhich is attached by a chain,'D, and strap,E, to the bottom of the wearers pocket. Said catch being forced into the contracted opening; b, of the socket, B, connects the article, to which said socket is attached, to thepocket,K and thus prevents its abstraction .without the owners knowledge. Thestrap, E, is provided with a bu'ttonfhole, which is passed over a button or hook, strongly fastened 'at-or near'the bottom of the pocket. The catch O corresponds in sizewith the interior of the socket b, and is of sufficient stiffness to require amoderate pressure to release it. Itis detached from the socket by pressing-and slightly pushing it with the finger. 'A strap or strong elastic cord may be substituted for the chain when desired.
Having thus'described my invention, what I 'claim as new therein, and desire to secure by'Letters Patent, is-,l-
The flat spring-catch C, in combination with the socket A B b, and ligamentlD E,'all constructed as herein represented and described, to prevent the abstraction of the pocket-book without the knowledge of' the oivnei, but permit hiin to readily detach it within the pocket'when desired. AARQN MQNEILL.
