Description

- I; T. DYER. Pickpdcket Alarm.
I Patented Jan .5, 1869.
To all whom it concern..-
fitntm in? mt ithe.
ISAAC T. DYER,.OF QUINC ILLINOIS. hams rawmmsa'ew, d ted January 5,18 69.
IMPROVED PICK'POCKET ALARM.
The Schedule referred to thus Letters Patent and making pan: of the lame.
. Be a known that I, ISAAC Ta -a Quincy, in the county ofAdams, and Stateof Illinois, have invented a new-and useful Pickpocket and Burglar- Alarm; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description. thereof, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a. perspective view. v Figure 2 is an inside elevation. Figure 3 is a vertical section, taken in the line a: a:
offig. 2. v r
The nature of my invention consists in the construction of a guard or protector; to be connected with a watch or pocket-book, and worn under the clothing, in such a manner that if the article to which it is attachedbe forcibly removed from the poeket,-it will prickthe wearer, thus giving an alarm,
To enable others skilled in the art to make and-use my invention, I will proceedtodesoribe' its construction and operation. a
The working-parts are inside the caseA, which is' securedto the body of the wearer, by straps B B.
One side of the case A is hinged, at the bottom, and .can be opened when desired.
On-the outside of the side A is a pin, 0, by which the case A- can be attached to the inside of the 010th.-
ing, which, with the straps B, will keep the instrument in place;
Inside is a shaiha, extending lengthwise the case A.
Attached to this is a short lever, b, extending toward the back of the case A.
In the top of the case is an opening, in which rests the stopper 0, the bottom of which is bevelled to fit the corresponding shape of the opening in the top of the case. r i
The lever b and stopper 0 are connected by a short chain, b. To the top of the stopper 0 is attached a cord or chain, j; one end of which is fastened to the stopper 0, and the other end is'fastened to the watch or other article in the pocket.
Near the bottom of the case A is a spring, 41, which is connected to the lever b, by rods orcords .c c.
On the underside of the shaft a are two levers g g, which are placed at light angles to the lever 12.
To the. ends of the'le'vers g g are hinged or pivoted 1' pins h h, which pass through openings in the side of the 'case A, as seen in fig. 3.
The extent of the movement of the pins h his regu lated by a set-screw, i, which passes through the top of the case A. V f
The solid side of the case A is placed next to the body of the wearer, the pin 0 and straps B B holding it in its position.
Its operation is as follows:
By pulling the chain f, the lever b is raised, which gives a partial revolution to the shaft a. By this movement, the levers g g move correspondingly to the lever b, and force the sharp pins 1: h outward, and prick the body of the person by whom the instrument is worn, thus giving him notice of the removal of the article to which the chain f is attached.
When the chain f is released from strain,'the"spring d forces all the parts back to their normal position.
Having thus fully described my invention, What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is,-
1. The combination of the chain or cord 1, the stop-;
per 0, and lever-b, substantially in the manner and for the purpose described.
2. The combination of the levers b and g, and the I shaft a, substantially in the manner and for the purpose specified. i
3. The combination of the levers g g and pins h h,- substantially in the manner and for the purpose specified.
4. The combination of the lever b and spring d, substantially in the manner and forthe purpose specified.
. p I. T. DYER.
