SAFETY ATTACHMENT FOR PURSES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 25, 1919.
Application filed September 7, 1918. Serial No. 253,094.
.To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY BASHINSKI, a citizen of the United States, residing at Macon, in the county of Bibb and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safety Attachments for Purses, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to purses, and particularly to means for holding a purse from detachment from the pocket of the garment.
The general object of the invention is to provide a safety device for holding purses so that they cannot be lost or'be picked from the pocket. To this end, the invention consists in applying to the purpose a ring which may be connected to a strap adapted to be engaged with the belt of the wearer so that the purse cannot fall out of the pocket or be picked therefrom, and further in. the provision of means whereby the purse may be readily detached from this strap so that the purse may be used in the ordinary manner.
Other objects will appear in the course of the following description.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a View showing my safety purse attachment in applied position;
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of a pocket showing the attachment in place.
Referring to these drawings 1O designates the purse which is of any ordinary or usual construction and which has attached thereto the small leather loop 11, one end of the loop being attached to the purse by any suitable means and being provided with a spring stud 12. The other extremity of the loop 11 is provided with a snap socket l3, coacting with the stud. The loop 11 passes through a ring 14. and to this ring is preferably connected the snap hook 15. To this snap is connected a leather strap 16 of any suitable length or dimensions which may be provided with a buckle whereby the strap may be extended. or contracted.
In the use of this device the strap 16 is engaged around a belt, for instance, the parts being long enough so that the purse may be carried in the hip pocket, without any strain being placed on the parts. It will be seen that with this device the purse cannot be picked from the pocket or accidentally fall out therefrom. If it be de sired to use the purse without the safety attachment, it may be readily disconnected therefrom, either by opening the snap hook 15 or by opening the loop 11. By removing the ring 14 from its engagement with the hook 15, the finger of the hand may he slipped through the ring and thus the purse carried without risk of its being'snatched from the hand or being accidentally laid down or falling. It is obvious that this safety device may be made very ornamental and that it will be very effective in preventing loss.
I claim 1. A purse having thereon a leather strip, the strip being provided with a coacting stud and snap socket, a ring through which the strip passes, a snap hook engaging the ring, and a leather loop adapted to recei i a belt and engaging the snap hook.
2. A purse having attached thereto aleather strip, the strip being adapted to be folded upon itself and being provided with a coacting stud and snap socket, a ring through which the strip passes. and a loop adapted to receive a belt and detachably engaged with said ring.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
HARRY BASHINSKI.
Witnesses D. M. CLEMENTS, J. B. HOLMES.
