IMPROVEMENT IN CLASPSFOR SCARF-SLIDES.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 159,421, dated February 2, 1875; application filed December 17, 1874.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ALBERT KoMP, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Clasps for Scarf-Slides and other purposes, of which the following is a specification 4 This invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 represents a face view of a scarfslide containing my clagp. Fig. 2 is a transverse section when the clasp is closed. Fig. 3 is a similar section when the clasp is open. Fig. 4 is a modification of the central portion of the clasp, showing it provided-with eyes for the reception of the side blades.

This invention consists of a clasp composedof three elastic blades, the central blade being provided at its ends with hooks or eyes to connect with theinneredges of the side blades, while the outer ends of said side blades form spring-catches, which, when pressed inward, lock against each other, and at the. same time catch against any material which may be placed between their ends and the central blade, thereby retaining said material in the required position.

The central spring, a, is 'so arranged that when the same is free to follow its inherent elasticity, it will throw the side wings of the slide open to the position shown in Fig.3.

The outer ends of the side springs, 0 c, are bent inward, and they form spring-catches d d, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3 of the drawing. When the side springs are pressed inward to the position shown in Fig. 2, the catches d d lock against each other and retain -the side wings in their closing position. And if my clasp is applied to a scarf-slide, A, for instance, and this slide is placed on a scarf, and the side wings, a, depressed, the rounded ends of the spring-catches d 01 come to bear upon the scarf, and thereby the slide is retained in its position.

In order to move the slide on the scarf, the side wings of said slide are forced open to the position shown in Fig. 3, and after the scarf has been carried or placed around the neck, the slide is moved up to the desired position, and by depressing its side wings said slide is locked and the scarf is held closed.

Fig. 4. of the drawings represents a modification of the central blade of the clasp, in which each end of the same is provided with an eye for the attachment of the side blades 0, whereby the side springs are prevented from displacement, should it be desired to use the clasp without a covering.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

A clasp constructed of an elastic central blade, or, and of two elastic blades, 0 0. connected to the central blade, a, substantially as shown, while the outer ends of said side blades form spring-catches d d, all constructed and operating substantially in the manner herein shown and described.
