- An elastic annular sealing member 56 is mounted within casing 15 surrounding the rotary spinning chamber 3, and in the closed operative position shown in FIG. 5, a circular flange 36 of support casing 16 abuts annular feeding member 56, deforming the same so that the interiors of support casings 15 and 16 are sealed.
- spinning chamber 3 is secured to a shaft 41 which carries at its end a pulley 44, and is mounted for rotation in bearings 42 and 43 in a tubular casing portion of casing 15 whose diameter is smaller than the diameter of the casing portion in which the spinning chamber is located.

- the combing roller 5 is secured to a shaft 24 which is mounted in bearings 25, 26 in support casing 16, and carries a pulley 27.
- pulley 27 is spaced from the drive belt 4 in the servicing position of support casing 16 so that combing roller 5 is not driven, but when support casing 16 is turned to the operative position shown in FIG. 5, pulley 27 is in Contact with drive belt 4 so that the combing roller 5 is rotated.
- Drive belt 4 is common to the pulley 27 of all spinning units mounted in a row along the frame 1, 13.
- the feeding roller 8 is secured to a shaft 21 which carries a movable armature forming the hub of a clutch half 51 which is urged by spring 55 abutting a flange of shaft 21 to move into coupling engagement With a second clutch half 52.
- the clutch 51, 52 is disengaged against the action of the spring 55.
- the second clutch half 51 has a gear rim which is driven by drive means extending along all units of the row.

- the electromagnet 50 is controlled by the sensing element 34 in such a manner that in the event of breakage of yarn 32 discharged from outlet opening 33, best seen in FIG. 4, the electromagnet 50 is energized and disengages the clutch 51, 52 and disconnects shaft 21 of feeding roller 8 from the drive means 6 or 14.
- the drive means 14 or 6 rotate clutch 51, 52 in engaged position together with shaft 21 and feeding roller 8 so that the sliver is fed as shown in FIG. 9.
- a siutable reduction gear may be interposed between clutch half 51 and feeding roller 8.
- the circular flange 36 engages the elastic annular feeding ⁇ member 56 when both support casings 15 and 16 are in the operative position.
- the rear of the spinning chamber 3 is provided with a labyrinth seal engaging corresponding grooves in the bottom wall of the wider portion of casing 15.
- the resilience of the elastic annular sealing member 56 permits slight relative adjustment of the support casings 15 and 16 when they are in the operative spinning position shown in FIG. 5 in which support casing 16 is locked by locking means 47, 48 to the frame wall 13, while support casing 15 is held by support casing 16 in abutment with frame wall 13.
- a shaft 58 takes the place of shaft 41, and is secured to spinning chamber 3.
- Shaft 5S carries the pulley 44, but is mounted in the tubular portion of casing 15 for turning and axial movement.
- a holder 62 is secured in a groove 61 of shaft 58 and has an opening through which a screw 63 passes.
- a coil spring 59 surrounds screw 63 and abuts casing 15 and holder 62. Spring 59 urges support casing 15 to an operative position which is determined by the adjustable screw 63. The pressure of support casing 16 on support casing 15 in the operative position of the spinning unit, causes a slight displacement of support casing 15 so that spring 59 is compressed.
- supply reels 71 are rotatably mounted on pivotable holder arms 70, and supply slivers 66 to the tapered condenser channels 65 of the second spinning means in support casing 16 of each spinning unit.
- the yarn 32 spun by the spinning ohamber 3 of the first spinning means in the first support casing 15, is delivered by a pair of rollers 72 and 73, all rollers 72 being mounted on a common shaft 74, and each rollers 73 being mounted on a pivoted arm for movement away from roller 72.
- the yarn 32 is finally wound by means of a traversing winding roller 76 on a take-up bobbin 75 which is detachably mounted on a forked arm 77 secured to the top of frame 1.
- Shaft 74 drives all traversing rollers 76 of the spinning units on the respective side of the frame, and roller 76 frictionally engages the wound-up package on bobbin 75 to rotate the latter.
- support casings 15 and 16 are in the position of FIG. 5.
- Support casing 16 is locked lby locking means 47, 48 to the frame wall 13, and presses support casing 15 against the frame wall 13, while annular elastic feeding member 56 yields to the pressure of flange 36.
- Control lever 54 is in an inoperative position, and the tubular portion of support casing 15 passes through the opening 46 in frame wall 13. In this position, pulley 44 engages the drive belt 2 which extends along -all units of the respective row, two drive belts being provided on opposite sides of the frame, as shown in FIG. 2.
- Control levers 45 of operative spinning units are in positions in which the brake surface 451 thereof is spaced from pulley 44.
- Support casing 16 is turned with combing roller 5 to a position in which pulley 27 on shaft 24 of combing roller abuts drive 'belt 4 so that combing rollers 5 of all operative spinning units are rotated.
- the fibers supplied through passage 28 in the separator boss 29 to the interior of the rotary spinning chamber 3 are spun into a yarn, not shown, which is discharged through the central passage 30 in the separator boss 29.
- the axis of rotation of spinning chamber 3 coincides with the axis of the central passage 30 in the operative position of the spinning unit.
- sensing means 34 Assuming that a yarn is sensed by sensing means 34, electromagnet 50 is deenergized, and spring 55 is effective to move clutch half 51 to a position engaging iclutch half 52 so that a driving motion can ⁇ be transmitted from shaft 6 and the gear on clutch half 52, in the embodiment of FIG. 7, and from drive chain 14 and the gear in the embodiment of FIG. 8 whereby shaft 21 and feeding roller 8 of operating units are driven to feed and transport the sliver 66, as shown in FIG. 9.
- sensing means 34 is actuated to energize electromagnet 50 so that clutch 51, 52 is disengaged, and feeding roller 8 stops. The operator then starts the spinning unit again by threading a sliver into the condenser channel 65 in the operative position of the spinning unit.
- sensing means 34 disengages cluutch 51, 52 yby energizing electromagnet 50, so that feeding roller 8 also stops.
- the two support casings, and the spinning means carried by the same can now be cleaned and serviced in the position of FIG. 4.
- control lever 45 places control lever 45 in the inoperative position shown in FIG. 5, and opens locking means 47 so that support casings 16 and 15 can be turned out of the operative position shown in FIG. 5 to the substantially horizontal position shown in FIG. 6, the opening 46 in frame wall 13 permitting the passage of the tubular portion of support casing and control lever 45.
- Counterclockwise movement of support casing 16 is stopped in the second servicing position shown in FIG. 6 by the stop 49 engaging the lower end of frame wall 13.
- Support casing 15 can now be turned in clockwise direction out of the position of FIG. 6 to a substantially horizontal position in which the spinning means in support casings 16 and 15 are completely accessible.
- Spinning apparatus comprising, in combination, a frame, and at least one spinning unit comprising first and second supports, and first and second spinning means carried by said first and second supports, respectively; first mounting means for mounting said first support on said second support for movement with said first spinning means and relative to said second support and said frame between a servicing position and an operative position; second mounting means for mounting said second support on said frame for movement with said second spinning means between a servicing position and an operative position, said first and second spinning means cooperating in said operative positions of said first and second support means to spin a yarn of a sliver and being spaced from each other and accessible for service in said servicing positions of said first and second supports; and control means mounted on said first support and having a holding position engaging said frame for holding said first and second supports in said servicing positions of the same when said second support is moved to said servicing position thereof and moves said first support to said servicing position thereof.
- spinning apparatus as claimed in claim 1 iwherein said spinning unit comprises locking means for locking said second support in said operative position to said frame; and wherein said first support in said operative position thereof is held by said second support in abutment with said frame.
- control means include a control member mounted on said first support for pivotal movement, and being spaced from said frame when said first support is in said operative position and abutting said frame in said holding position when said first and second supports are in said servicing positions thereof whereby said first and second supports can not move beyond said servicing positions of the same.
- said first spinning means is mounted on said first support for rotation about an axis and includes a pulley; comprising a drive belt engaged by said pulley only in said operative position of said first support means; and wherein said control member has a brake surface engaged by said pulley in said holding position of said member in said servicing position of said first support so lthat said first spinning means is rotated in said operative position and stopped in said servicing position of said first support.
- said frame includes a frame ⁇ wall having an opening; wherein said first support means includes a first casing having a rst casing portion located on one side of said wall and housing said first spinning means, and a second casing portion projecting through said opening to the other side of said wall and having bearing means supporting said pulley on said other side of said wall; wherein said first mounting means includes first pivot means connecting said first casing portion with said second support; and wherein said control member is a control lever located on said other side of said

- said first support includes a first casing; wherein said first spinning means includes a spinning chamber mounted in said first casing for rotation, a shaft connected with said spinning chamber for rotation and mounted in said first casing for rotation and for axial movement with said spinning chamber, holding means secured to said shaft, and spring means between said holding means and said first casing for urging said spinning chamber resiliently to a working position cooperating with said second spinning means in said operative positions of said first and second support means.

- Spinning apparatus as claimed in claim 1 comprising a plurality of spinning units arranged in a row along said frame, each spinning unit including a second support mounted on said frame and supporting a second spinning means, and a first support mounted on the respective second support and supporting a second spinning means; drive means extending along said row and said frame; and means connecting said drive means with said first and second spinning means in said operative positions of said first and second supports, and disconnecting said first and second spinning means from said drive means in said servicing positions of said first and second supports.
