UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SOLOMON 0. SPRING, 0F BRISTOL, ASSIGNOR TO 'WIJLOH, SPRING 85 00., OF FORESTVILLE, CONNECTICUT.
IMPROVEMENT IN CLOOK-CASES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 215,708., dated May .20, 1879; application filed March 20, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SOLOMON (1. SPRING, of Bristoi, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Clock-Gases, of which the toilowing is a specification.
My invention consists of a clocleczse composed ot' a top and base, connected together by vertical. posts grooved on two sides, and with the several sides of the case having their edges resting in said grooves, as hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a treat elevation of a clock-case which embodies my invention. Fig. is a side elevation of the same, and Fig. 3 is a horizontal section of the same on line .1: a of Fig. l.
A designates the top of the case; I the bottom or base, and O G U 0 four pillars or posts, which connect said top and base, the whole constituting the frame of the clock-case. 1 These posts 0 are each of them grooved longitudinally on two sides, as shown in Fig. 3, which grooves receive the edges of proper panels to complete the several sides of the case.
The top and bottom may be of any desired form and the posts of any pleasing design.
At the front of the case a face-board, u, is ilaced, with its side edges resting in the rooms of the posts. The front part of the top is cut away in order to allow said faceboard to extend upward and cover a part of the top. Upon the inside of the case, back the face-board, and around the opening for the ordinary sash-door I), this face -board is strengthened, as at I) b, Fig. 3.
The back side of the base is also cut away, so that the back 0 may extend downward the whole length of the base. The edge of the back also rests in, the grooves of the vertical posts, and may be so made as to be removed and replaced, when desired, by sliding it out and in to said grooves.
I make the side panels, (I d, of glass, also resting in grooves in the posts, as shown, but, if desired, the said side panels may be of wood or other material without departing from the other features of my invention.
I also intend to provide the saslrdoor D with clear glass whenever clearglass sides are employed, thereby showing the interior of the case and the working parts of the clock, and producing an attractive article.
The construction is such that an economy in labor is eii'ectcd over the old style of clock :ases.
I claim as my invention The herein-described clock-case, consisting of the top and base, connected together by the vertical posts, grooved on two sides, and the several vertical sides having their edges resting in said grooves, substantially as described, and for the purpose specified.
