DESIGN.
H. J. DAVIES. Clock-Case.
No.11,458. Patented Oct. 14,1879,
n. HI-Rt. mow-urnoaunu. wuumom. n c
UNITED STATES PATENT vQFFICE.
HENRY J. DAVIES, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
DESIGN FOR CLOCK-CASES.
Specification forming part of Design No. l [,458, dated October 14, 1879; application tiled September 19,1-7) [Term of patent 7 tcars] To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY J. DAVIES, of the city of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and original Design for Clock-Cases, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part thereof.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my newlydcsigned clock-case. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section of the same. Fig. 3 represents, in outline, the vertical profile of the front and sides. Fig. 4 represents, in outline, the vertical profile of the back.
The general form of my newly-designed case is that of a short column or shaft, the cross-section of which is elliptical or approximatelyelliptical form, ornamented by round pilasters, and having a molded base and capital, the horizontal sections or profiles of which conform to the elliptical section of the shaft or column, and to the pilasters thereon. 0n the front and sides of the column, between the pilasters, are raised panels, the forms of which are respectively elliptical and oblong, with arched or rounded top and bottom.
A is the column or principal portion of the case, the elliptical horizontal profile of which is broken by the round pilasters a a and the panels b c c, the pilasters having about onehalf only of their round horizontal profile pro jecting beyond the elliptical profile of A, and the panels I) c c projecting entirely beyond the said elliptical profile, while above and below the panels its continuity is only broken by the pilasters.
The horizontal section, Fig. 2, is taken through the panels; but the continuity of the elliptical profile above and below them is indicated in dotted outline.
The projecting front panel, b, which surrounds the field of the dial, is of elliptical form. The projecting side panels, a c, are of oblong form, with rounded top and bottom.
The base B, the horizontal profile of which conforms to the corresponding profiles of the elliptical portion of the column A and the pilasters a a, is represented as composed of a plinth, (I, and a cavetto, e.
The capital 0, which also conforms in its horizontal profile to the profiles of A and a a, is represented as composed of an ogee, f, and an ovolo, g, and an intermediate compound member, h, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4.
What I claim as my invention is- 1. The design for a clock-case herein shown and described, the same consisting, essen tially, ofthe elliptical column A and the round pilasters a a.
2. The design for a clock-case herein shown and described, consisting, essentially, of the elliptical column A and the elliptical front panel, I), projecting therefrom.
3. The design for a clockcase herein shown and described, consisting, essentially, of the elliptical column A and the projecting oblong round-ended side panels, 0 c.
4. The design for a clock-case herein shown and described, consisting, essentially, of an elliptical column, A, round pilasters a a, and a base, B, conforming in its horizontal profile to the column A and the pilasters a a.
5. The design for a eloclrcase herein shown and described, consisting, essentially, of an elliptical column, A, round pilastcrs a a, and a capital, C, conforming in its horizontal profile to the column A and pilasters a a.
6. The design for a clock-case herein shown and described, consisting, essentially, of an elliptic column, A,.round pilasters a a, and a base B, and capital 0, both conforming in their horizontal profile to the said column and pilasters.
