Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
SOLOMON C. SPRING, OF BRISTOL, ASSIGNOR TO VELOH, SPRING S5 CO., OF FORESTVILLE, CONNECTICUT.
DESIGN FOR CLOCK-CASE.
Specification forming part of Design No. l 1,092, dated March 25, 1879,' application filed Iiebrnary 24, 1879. [Term of patent 7 years] To all wlw-m it may concern:
Be it known that I, SOLOMON C. SPRING, of Bristol, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have originated and produced a new Design for a Clock-Oase, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying photographic illustrations, making part of this specification, in which- Fignre 1 is a front View of the design, and Fig. 2 a corner View of the saine.
A. represents the base, composed of a series of moldings, but containing no special novelty, and for which I reserve the right to substitute other moldings and a different base Without changing the character of the more essential features of my desi gn-to Wit, the parts above this base.
At each ot' the four upright corners of' the case there are pillars B, the same heilig square for a sutlicient portion of their length to form cubes at their upper and lower ends, and also at near the middle of their length. The outside faces of these cubes are ornamented by rosettes, as shown. The body of the pillars between the cubes is round and ornamented by beads and bauds distributed over it at proper intervals, as shown. At the upper ends of the pillars there is a horizontal cap, C, one on each side, and spanning said caps is another cap, D, in the form of asegrnent of a circle. Upon the front of the case and depending from the edge of the cap D there is a block, the base a of which is in substantially the same plane with the caps O O, and the face of which is ornamented by a rosette like those on the pillars B. Surmounting this block and the caps (l C over the two front pillars there are ornamental tips b b b. These tips have a narrow neck just above their base, then a broad flange, above which is another narrow neck, and a globe or ball surmounts the whole tip. Upon the front panel of the case is the sash E, square at the base and rounded at the top, as shown.
I prefer to ll the entire sash and the sides between the front and rear pillars with clear glass, so that parts of the pillars may be seen through them, as shown in Fig. 2, and thereby produce a pleasing eEect to the eye.
While I consider the design for the top ot' the case above the ends of the pillars as of my invention, I intend to use in some cases the body of the ease and pillars herein shown with a top of a different design.
1t is also evident that if the pillars at the rear corners were omitted the design for the front would be unchanged.
I claim as my invention- 1. In a clock-case, the design for the body of the front, consisting, essentially, of the pillars B B at the corners thereof, said pillars composed of the cubes, roscttes, beads, and bands, substantially as shown and described.
2. In a clock-case, the design for the body of the case, consisting of the four pillars B B B '.B, ornnrnented as described, and arranged at the four corners of the case, substantially as shown and described.
3. The design for a clock-case front, consisting of a. suitable base, pillars B B, of the design shown, surmounted by caps C U D and ornamental tips b b b, substantially as shown and described.
