IMPROVEMENT IN COMBINED SHIRT BOSOM AND COL LAR.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 208,191, dated September 17, 1878; application filed June 1, 1878.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, DANIEL MCFARLAND, of Boonville, in the county of Cooper and State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Combined Bosom and Collar for Shirts, of which the following is a specification The subject of my invention is a separate or false bosom for shirts, with a collar attached at the center and one of the upper corners of the bosom, the other extremities of the collar and bosom being provided with tabs and holes for buttoning at the back and front, respectively, of the neck-band of the shirt.

The object of the invention is to provide an inexpensive substitute for a laundried shirt, with the least possible expenditure and material.

To this end I make the neck-band of my detachable bosom short'on one side, where it is attached to the collar, and provide it with an extension on the other side for buttoning at the back of the neck.

In order that my invention may be fully understood, I will proceed to describe it with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the at tachment open, in readiness for putting on the person. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the same, closed and buttoned.

B represents the bosom; O, the collar, and A the customary button-hole tab for the attachment of the waistband of the drawers. The extremity c of the collar 0 is attached to the bosom at the center of the neck-band, and, together with said band, is provided with a button-hole, 0 for the reception of a button, D, by which it is attached to the neck-band of the shirt. The center of the collar is provided with the customary button-hole for buttoning to the shirt at back. The short end b of the bosom-band is attached to the collar. The other extremity of the collar d is free, and is provided with a button-hole for buttoning at the front of the neck, as shown in Fig. 2.

The free corner of the bosom is provided with a tab or extension, e, with a hole, e, for buttoning at the back of the neck, as shown in Fig. 2.

It is my intention to manufacture the combined attachment of paper, and to fasten the collar to the bosom at the collar-button, and also at one top corner of the bosom by cementing or other means; but the parts may be detachably connected, or the connection may extend continuously from the collar-button to the corner of the bosom.

The attachment may be made of linen if pre ferred.

I am aware that shirts opening at back have been made with collars. attached on one side and free at the other, as shown in the patent of Wolf and Jackson, March 7,1876. This, therefore, I do not claim; but

What I do claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The combined false bosom and collar B G, the bosom being extended on one side only by a button-hole tab, 6, to the back of the neck, and the whole constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purpose herein described.
