My present invention relates co-spectacle or eyeglass cases such as are ordinarily employed for carrying the glasses in a, pocket when not being used, and its obj ect isthe pro '5 vision of such a case which shall be free from certain objections or defects inherent in cases 'of this character as ordinarily constructed, and shallbe more durableand more desirable for the purposes to beservedthan are spectacle cases of similar'character heretofore 1 known. This object I attain through the novel form and arrangement ofthe box parts, the essential elements of my invention being more particularly pointed out in the appended claims. I

My novel spectacle case, as in the case of' ordinary cases of usual construction, includes two covered sheet metal members, a body member 1 and a lid member 2,,which are formed at the rear with aligned hinge rolls 3 connected by a pintle 4 and a spring 5 which in opposite extreme positions of the mem- 0 bers yieldingly holds such members alternatively either in open or closed relation.- The lower or body sheet metal member 1 is formed with a continuous rounded upwardly extending section forming the front side 6 and rear side 7 and the end portions 8-8 of the case,

It may here be explained that in spectacle or eyeglass cases of ordinary construction the arcuateends of the box meet thestraight front and rear sides at an angle, and the retaining flange extends in a straight line from one end wall to the other, whereby the covering necessarily presents a raw edge at the ends of such retaining flange, and whereby j angles are formed at the two junction points between the front side and ends which are exposed to wear to such a degree that the cov ering invariably wears away at those points while it is yetrpresentable in appearance and serviceable elsewhere. of the lid is provided wit-h a curved thumb notch 12, and on each side of such notch the edge of the lid is formed with a shallow cupped bend or lip 13, so that the case may be grasped by either hand, with the thumb opposite the thumb notch 12 of the lid but not contacting it, and the lid then conveniently manipulated by applying the thumb of the other hand to one or the other of the lips 13 at the edge of the lid.

I claim:

1. A spectaclecase including a sheet metal box body member formed with an integral front side portion formed upon straight lines and curved end portions merging tangentially into said. front portion at its ends and a retaining flange continuous with the top of said front portion and extending upwardly and rearwardly therefrom, said retaining flange tapering in width adjacent its ends to meet said curved end portions of the body member, and a covering of flexible material extending over the outer faces of the box body and folded continuouslyover the edges of said end portions and said retaining flange.

2.
