Description

Jan. 16, 1934. VAN BUNKER 1,943,751
LIP samba Filed Sept. 13. 1932 Inventor Patented Jan. lid, lh d Helen lusnlse Van lonelier, San Antonio, Tex.
application Septernher l3, W32
his. ddfi llld the appended claims.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will he had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in whichz Figure l is a view of the blank from which the shield is termed.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view or the shield.
Fig. 3 is a front view thereof.
Fig. i is a sectional view showing how the shield is used.
in these views the lette it indicates the shield whichis formed oi the upper and lower portions 1 and 2 each portion having acurved flange 3 which is shaped to cover the lips, as shown in. Fig. 4i, and the horizontal part t which has a reduced substantially straight edge part ii at its inner end for extending'into the mouth of the user, the rear ends of these parts being connected together by iold line 6.
lhus by placing the two parts 5 in the mouth with parts at extended between the lips, the flanges 3 will cover the lips and thus prevent rouge on the lips from soiling-a garment when being placed upon the body of the user or re moved therefrom.
line device may he formed of any suitable material and I prefer to form it of a lolanlt such as shown in Fig. l, which is substantially circular shape and formed with the openings '7, at its side portions, which extend through the side edges of the device and form if-shaped recesses 8 in said sides. Besides the fold line 6, thehlanlr is provided with the arcuate fold lines 9- so that when the blank is folded on these lines 9, the flangesB will be formed. The recessed parts 8 will permit the ends of these two flanges to come close together so as to cover the corner or the mouth of the user.
As is well known many garments are soiled hy rouge from the lips of persons trying on dresses in a store and with this invention the soiling is prevented, as the store keeper can have a supply of these shields on hand so that the purchaser can place one in her mouth when she is trying on the garments.
As before stated, the device can be made of",
any suitable material, such as various kinds of paper, cardboard, crinoline, rubber, fiber, bake lite, glass, celluloid, pulp etc. molded, made of material requiring molding, or where molding would facilitate the rnanufacturoi the device, or the device can be formed from any suitable material.
It will of course he understood that the devices can he used in the home and they may be given away as an advertising medium, and may he manufactured of celluloid or the like and sold in the five and ten cent stores for individual use.
lit is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will he readily apparent.
It is to he understood that changes may he made the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope or the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new isz- 1. Means for preventing rouge from the lips of a user soiling garments when the garment is he ing removed or placed on the body or the user, comprising a shield formed of a single piece or non-metallic material and ihcludingupperand lower relatively narrow members having their inher ends connected together by a fold line and each having an. arcuate enlargement at its outer end, said. enlargement having pointed ends errtending beyond the side edges of each member, an upwardly extendin lipcovering portion con.-
nected with the outer edge or the enlargement or the upper member and a downwardly extending lip covering portion connected with the outer edge or the enlargement of the lower member, the ends oi each lip covering part extending well he'yond the ends of the enlargement, each lip covering part having its inner portion sloping outwardly to cover the lip and its outer portion sloping inwardly to cover portions oi the race adjacent the lip.
2. Means for preventing rouge from the lips of a user soiling garments when a garment is be ing removed from or placed onthe body ofthe user, comprising a shield formed of a single piece of non-metallic material and including upper and lower relatively narrow members havingv their innerends connected together by a fold line and said members contacting each other, one above the other, each member having an arcuate enlargement at its outer end, the enlargement of the upper member extending upwardly and the enlargement of the lower member extending downwardly, the inner portion of each enlargement sloping outwardly to cover the lips and the outer portion of each enlargement sloping inwardly to cover that part of the face adjacent the lips.
