INFANT S GARMENT Filed Sept. 17, 1929 Inventor QMQO/ih A ttorney Patented May 19, 1931 ELMER H. (moves, or MINNEAPGLIS, urnnnsora INFANTS GARMENT Application filed September 17; 1929. seriarualseaiss.
This invention relates to garments and more particularly to an article of this character which is especially adapted for infants or very small children and has for one ofits objects to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a garment of this character, having means thereon for expeditiously and securely" connecting a restraining strap or a plurality of straps thereto for the purpose of retaining the infant in a chair, bed, or any other desired place.
Another object of the invention is to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a garment of the above mentioned character is having means embodied therein for ad ustlng the same in a manner to adapt the garment to infants or children of different sizes.
Other objects of the invention are to provide an infants garment of the aforemerr 2o tioned character, which will be simple in construction, strong, durable, efiicient in its use, and which may be manufactured at low cost. Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following specification taken in connection with the accompanying drawings,v wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein: s
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a garment constructed in accordance with this invention.
Figure 2 is a rear elevation thereof. Figure 3 is a side elevation of the garment. Referring t c-the drawings in detail, the reference character 1 designates generally a body or waist portion having a front side 2, a rear side 3, and connecting side portions 4;
v The body portion 1 is provided with arm openings 5 and the neck opening 6'in its upper end. The front 2 and back?) of the garment are provided at their upper ends with pairs of spaced co-acting overlapping shoulder straps 7 and 8. The front straps 7 outer faces and adjacent their free ends. A button 10 is also secured on the outer face'of each of the front straps 7 adjacent the point where said straps join the'body portion 1 and body portion of the garment, a pair of'coprevent the infant from leaning'forward and are each provided with a button 9 on their in spaced relation to the buttons 9; The rear;
straps 8 areeach provided with a series of button holes 11 adjacent their points of connection with the body portion 1 for the re' ception of the buttons 9 of the straps 7 and with another series of button holes 12 for the reception of the buttons 10 of the straps 7 As most clearly illustrated in Figure 3 of j the drawings, the rear strap 8 overlapsthe front strap 7 and said straps are adjustably connected together by selectively engaging the buttons 9 and 10 in the button holes of the series 11 and 12, respectively, as will be obvious.
Secured to the body 1 are a plurality of circumferentially spaced connecting rings, 13, which are mounted in eyelets 14, saideyelets 14 being anchored in flexible pieces of.
material 15 which are stitchedgto thebody portion 1. For the purpose of adjusting the acting flexible straps or tabs 16 are. stitched" at their opposite ends thereto on the back 3 and are adjustably connected together through the medium of the buckle17. V
It will thus be seen that I have provided a garment for infants having means thereon for attaching 'a restraining strap at the most desirable points. Should it be desired to v possibly falling out, while seated in a chair, bu the anchoringstrap (not shown) would be secured to the rear ring 13 and have its opposite end anchored to the back of the chair and for the purpose of preventing the infant from falling out of bed, a strap (not shown) may be coupled to eachof the side rings and j the opposite ends thereof secured to opposite sides of the bed. y i p Y q It is to be understood that thegarment 3 maybe constructed of any suitable material; It will also be seen that I haveprovided novel and durable shoulder strap adjusting means.
It is believed thatthe many advantages of a garment constructed in accordance with a;
the present invention will be readily understood and although the preferred embodiment of the invention is as illustrated and described, it is tobe understand that changes, in the details of construction may be had,
als
which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
WVhat is claimed is:
A garment of the character described comprising a tubular body encircling portion formed of asingle piece of material a series of flexible sheets stitched to the body portion in circun'rl'crentially spaced relation, an eyelet mounted on each sheet and projecting outwardly therefrom, a metallic coupling ring loosely mounted for swinging movement on each eyelet, and means extending circumferentially on the rear of the body encircling portion for adjusting said portion.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
