Claims.

My invention relates to a baby carrier and holder of the type whichis attached to a person for'supporting and carrying the 'baby which leaves the persons arms free for other purposes. The objects of my invention are:

First, to provide a holder and carrier of this class which protects the baby throughout the larger portion of its body while it is held and carried;

"Second, to provide a holder and carrier of this class which supports the head and body against undue strain while being held and carried;

Third, to provide a holder and carrier of this class that is so constructed and arranged that the babys body is secured in its proper position in substantially upright position facing outwardly fromthebody of the "person carrying the baby or may be shifted to a more horizontal position, if desired;

Fourth, to provid a carrier of this class which may be made up of cloth or fabric throughout, if desired;

Fifth, to provide a carrier of this class which holds the baby in a normal comfortable position while being carried; and

Sixth, to provide a carrier of this class which is very simple and economical of construction, efficient, durable and comfortable.

With these and other objects in View as will appear hereinafter, my invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions as will be hereinafter described in detail and particularly set forth in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the characters of reference thereon which form a part of this application in which:

Figure 1 is an isometric view of my baby holder and carrier in carrying position shown positioned on the person carrying the baby; Fig. 2 is a fragmentary back view thereof and Fig. 3 is a diagrammatic view of the carrier detached from the person and baby.

The carrier is preferably made of cloth or fabric material and includes a strap member I which is two or three inches wide and arranged to fit over the shoulder of the person carrying the baby. Secured to this strap I near one end is a broadened hood-like member 2 which is adapted to fit over the head of the baby but is extended and forms the back of the body portion, and at its extended end is provided a basket-like por- '2 tion 3 with

3a and 3b with a middle extended portion 30 which supports the baby. It is provided intermediate the portions 2 and 3 close to the normally upper edge of the portion 3 with two extended flap portions 4 and 5 which are arranged to overlap at the middle of the front, as shownbest in Fig. l of the drawing and is provided with strings 4a and 5a at the top and bot-tomforholding these members 4 and 5 around the body of the baby above the portion 3; Secured to the upper side of these portions 4 and 5 and to th body portion just below the hood portion2 are straps 6 and I which extend over the shoulder-of the baby as shownbest in lot" the drawing. Secured to the portion 30 at the center of the body portion is a strip 8 similarto the strip I. This stripj8is adapted to be buckled into a buckle 9 secured on the strip member I. It is arranged for the adjustment of the strip I and 8 for properly adjusting the position of the baby relatively to the person carrying the same.

It will be here noted that the holder and carrier may be reversed if desired so that the baby faces toward the body of the carrier instead of away from the same, or the carrier may be shifted to hold the baby in a more horizontal position by shifting the straps I and 8 on the person. Furthermore, it will be noted that with the holder in the position on the baby as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing the straps I and 8 may be secured to the top bed clothes on a bed, in which case the baby will be held on the bed and could not fall off. This could be easily accomplished by pinning the members I and 8 to the bed clothing which is obvious.

Though I have shown and described a particular construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions, I do not wish to be limited to this particular construction, combination and arrangement but desire to includ in the scope of my invention the construction, combination and arrangement substantially as set forth in the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. In a baby carrier and holder of the class described, the combination of a pair of straps buckled together arranged to be looped over the shoulder of a person, a baby body surrounding member provided with leg openings at one end and a hood-like member at its opposite end, one of said straps secured to the hood-like member at one end and the other secured to said body surrounding member at its opposite end between the leg openings.

2. In a baby carrier and holder of the class described, the combination of a baby body surrounding member, the one end of said baby body surrounding member forming a hood member, the other end forming a basket-like carrier member with spaced openings for the legs of the baby, fiap portions intermediate said hood portion and said basket-like portion arranged to extend around the body of the baby and be secured at the front side, and a pair of straps buckled together arranged to be looped over the shoulder of a person, one of said straps secured to said hood portion at the middle at one end, the other end secured to said body portion at its opposite end between the spaced leg openings.

3. In a baby carrier and'holder of the class described, the combination of a baby body surrounding member, the one end of said baby body surrounding member forming a hood member, the other end forming a basket-like carrier memher with spaced openings for the legs of the baby, fiap portions intermediate said hood portion and said basket-like portion arranged to extend around the body of the baby and be secured at the front side, a pair of straps buckled together arranged to be looped over the shoulder of a person, one of said straps secured to said hood portion at the middle at one end, the other strap secured to said body portion at its opposite end between the spaced leg openings, and strap means inconnection with the free sides of said flap members and said body portion adjacent the hood portion of said body member arranged to fit over the: shoulders of the baby.

4. In a baby holder and carrier of the class described, the combination of body member 4. arranged to extend from the head of the baby and along the back portion thereof and extending between the legs of the baby with spaced leg openings, an adjustablestrap connected with the opposite ends of said body member at the head and between the legs, one end of said body portion forming a hood which fits over the head of the baby, the opposite end of the body member forming a basket-like member for supporting the baby, the portion intermediate said hood portion and said basket-like portion 'p'rovided with extended flap portions adapted to fit around the body of the baby and be secured at the front side, the upper edges of said flaps arranged to fit under the arms of the baby.

5. In a baby holder and carrier of the class described, the combination of a body member arranged to extend from the head of the baby and along the back portion thereof and extending between the legs of the baby with spaced leg openings, an adjustable strap connected with the opposite ends of said body member at the head and between the legs, one end of said body portion forming a hood which fits over the head of the baby, the opposite end of the body member forming a basket-like member for supporting the baby, the portion intermediate said hood portion and said basket-like portion provided with extended flap portions adapted to fit around the body of the baby and be secured at the front side, the upper edges of said flaps arranged to fit under the arms of the baby, and straps secured near the free edge of said flaps arranged to fit over the shoulders of the baby and secured to I the body member at the lower side of said hood portion.
