UNITED STATES JOHN WILLIAM'GODBEHERE, OF HOT SPRINGS, ARKANSAS.
GARMENT.
' Application flledll lay 24,
a specification.
This invention relates to uniform garments of the drop seat overall type- The object of this invention is to provide a garment of this character having a belt carried drop seat which is, easily adjusted and operated bymeans of the belt slidable in loops the garment body and is equipped with meansto' limit such sliding movement of the belt to prevent its ,dropping down and to hold the ends in convenient position to be grasped when the seat is to be raised by pulling the belt forward without necessitating any manipulation of the seat.
Another object is to provide a garment of this character inwhich the seat is held in raised operative position without the use of any buttons or other fasteners, the belt secured thereto performing the double function of seat retaining means and of means for raising the seat to closed position.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the detailsof construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being underst ood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 represents. a front elevation of a garment constructed in accordance with.
this invention.
.Fig. 2 is a rear elevation thereof with the seat shown in lowered'position.
Fig. 3 isa longitudinal section through the belt showing the connection with the loose portion thereof with the garment; and
Fig. 4 is 'a detail transverse section.
In the embodiment illustrated a one piece overall garment 1 is shown such as is used by boys and men and is composed of a body portion 2 and a bifurcated nether portion 3. The back 4 of the body portion has its lower edge curved upwardly from the sides .toward the center as shown at 5 over which the drop seat 6 is designed to lap when 111 closed 1923. Serial No. 641,229.
position. A waist encircling belt 7 is secured to the upper edge of the drop seat 6 from end to end of said seat and the loose ends of said belt extend through loops 8 secured to the body'portion of the garment at the waist line thereof at opposite sides. Tapes 11' are arranged longitudinally on the inner face of the belt 7 at opposite sides of the garment and are secured to the belt at their ends as is'shown' clearly in Fig. 3. These tapesll pass through loops 10 arran d under the loops 8 as is shown clearly in 1gs. 3 and 4 and which limit the longitudmal movement of'the belt 7 so that the free ends thereof will not bepulled through the loops 8 when the seat 6 is lowered. The ends of the belt may be equipped with any suitableconnecting elements, a buckle 9 being here shown.
Inth e use of this garment the drop seat 6 is ad usted solely by the extended belt 7 wh1ch is buckled or otherwise fastened in front and by means of which the seat may be adjusted b loosening or tightening the visible from the outside of the belt. When the seat 6 is dropped it pulls the belt 7 through the loops 8 until the outer ends of the sliding tapes ll engage the inner loops 10 and prevent the belt 7 from being drawn through the side loops 8 by the lowering of the seat. This arrangement checks the outwardly sliding movement of the belt 7 and holds the free ends thereof inconvenient position to be grasped when it is desired to readjust the drop seat to the waist line without necessitating any manipulation of the seat itself.-
Various changes in the form, shape, proportion and other minor details of construction may be made without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the adtended below the waist line, the seat adaptedsto be closed up over said extension, said belt having longitudinally arranged tapes secured at their ends to the inner face of the belt, and superposed loops formedon the garment throu h which said tape and belt pass whereby t e opening movement of the seat is restricted and the belt held against the disengagement from the garment.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto afiixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
JOHN WILLIAM GODBEHERE.
