The invention relates to garments, and has for its object to provide a garment which may be easily and quickly converted to a bifurcated type of garment thereby allowing a long coat to be converted to a bifurcated suit. which is particularly adaptedfor use by mechanics, and the garment to be used as overalls.

A further object is to provide a'convertible garment wherein the legs are formed in such a manner when'they are unbuttoned vertically, the overalls may be converted into a skirt type of overall.

A further object is to construct the leg forming portions of the garment in a man ner whereby when the device is formed into a bifurcated garment, the front part of the legs of the garment will be formed from a' double thickness of material, thereby protecting the knees and strengthening the legs at a point where the maximum strain takes place in the legs.

A further object is to provide a convertible garment convertible from a skirt type of garment to a bifurcated type of garment, said garment being entirely slit up its front and partially split up its back, the back por-v tions formed by the split being adapted to be drawn around the legs between the legs and buttoned around the legs to the outside of the legs.

lVith the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawing, described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.

In the drawing Figure 1 is a front elevation of the garment showing the same in skirt form. Figure 2 1s a front elevation of the gar ment showing the same formed into overalls.

Figure 5 is a view in elevation showing the skirt after it has been formed into knickerbockers.

Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates a coat, 2 the front thereof, which front is split for its vertical length at 3.

The side 4 of the front o verlaps the side 5 for forming a suit of overalls, the buttons 10 are unbuttoned and the flaps 11 are passed inwardly between'the legs, after which the portions 12 of the back formed by the split 8 are drawn forwardly between the legs and then wrapped around the forward sides of the legs over the portions 11 and are secured to the buttons13, thereby forming the legs 9, the forward sides of which are formed from a double thickness of material as shown in Figure 8. If so desired the garment adjacent its lower end may beprovided with straps 14, which straps when the legs are formed may be utilized for bracing the lower ends of the legs where considerable straintakes place. The rear sideof the garment is provided with horizontally disposed sphts 15, which are normally closed by means of buttons 16, however the buttons 16 are unbuttoned when the device is formed mto a bifurcated garment as shown in Figure 2, and when the portions 12 are drawn between the legs'and Wrapped around the I forward sides thereof the button holes 17 which receive the buttons '16 are received by the buttons 18 and the button holes 19 in which the buttons 10 are disposed receive the buttons 13, thereby allowing the garment to be easily formed into overalls, and at thesame time the legs 9 to be formed on their forward sides with double thicknesses of material. The device is particularly adapted for use by automobilist-s, who use what is known as clusters which clusters could be easily and quickly converted into overalls when desired.

' Referring to Figures at and 5 wherein a skirt 20 is shown. the skirt is split at 21 entirely up its backside, and partially split at 22 up its front side. When it is desired to form the skirt into. knickerbockers as shown in Figure 5 the rear side of the skirt is unbuttoned or opened by unbuttoning the buttons 23, then wrapping the portions 24: forwardly between the legs and around the legs, after which the buttons 25, which norbuttons 27 on the rear side of the skirt, as clearly shown in Figure 5, thereby forming knickerbockers. I

From the above it will be seen that a convertible garment is provided, which is simple nconstructmn, and one 'WhlCh may be easily and quickly converted from a skirt type garinentto a bifurcated garment, such for instance, as from a conventional form of automobile duster to voveralls. v

The invention having been set forth what is claimed as new and useful is A garment, said garmentextending from theshouldersto the ankles ofa wearer and the first mentioned slit, all of said slits merging together adjacent the crotch of the wearer, said horizontally disposed slitsform in'g flapsadapted to encircle the legs of the wearer forwardly,outwardly and rearwardly and securing means carried by opposite sides of the lower end of the garment to which the ends of the flaps may be attached.
