JAMES'ROBINSON, 0F BOCHIDALE, ENGLAND.
SHIRT.
Application filed Apriil 10, 1924. Serial No. 705,698.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JAMES ItoBINsoN, a British subject, residing at Rochdale, county of Lancaster, England, have invented a certain new and useful Improvements in Shirts, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to shirts or shirt fronts for personal wear in which the front can be reversed or turned over to present a fresh or clean surface.
The shirt or front is constructed with a double front strap with loose semi-front piece of the same or other material attached to the centre of the strap which may be folded over to either side.
The invention will be fully described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Fig. 1. is a normal view of shirt front in one position.
Fig. 2. is a normal view of shirt front folded over, to reverse or opposite side.
Fig. 3. is a sect onal diagram of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4. is a sectional diagram of Fig. 2.
Fig. 5. is a sectional diagram showing the semi-front in central position.
Fig. 6. is a sectional diagram showing enlarged view of button holes.
Fig. 7. is a normal View of shirt front 30 with the semi-front B of double thickness with different cloth on the two sides.
Fig. 8 is normal View of shirt front as in Fig. 7, folded over to the opposite side.
Fig. 9. is a sectional diagram of Fig. 7, showing semi-front in central position.
Fig. 10. is a normal view of shirt front separate from or detached from the shirt.
Fig. 11. is a sectional diagram of Fig. 10, showing semi-front shirt in central position.
The shirt may be of any ordinary shape or fashion and of any ordinary material employed in the shirt trade.
As shown in Figs. 1 to 6 the shirt front is made with a double front strap A the two sides a a of which are stitched to the shirt with acentre part a which can be folded to lie flat on either side. The strap A is stitched centrally to the shirt and at each edge and stitched and stayed top and bottom to retain it firmly in position. A loose semi-front B is stitched to the centre part a of the front strap A which can be folded over to either side to cover one side of the ordinary front and present a fresh or clean surface. It is preferably provided at the top with a band 6 to fit under the collar of the wearer and with buttons and button holes 6 or tapes or elastic at the shoulder and corners to retain it in position. The front strap A is provided with two sets of central button holes 5 b one set F) being utilized when the semi-front B is folded to one side and the other set 6 when the semifront 13 is folded to the other side thus giving the appearance of a plain front. The loose front B at its free edge may be straight or may be shaped to extend and be fastened by tapes or otherwise under the arm.
The semi-front may be either single or double thickness according to the class of material; for a reversible cloth it may be single for a non-reversible cloth it may be double.
As shown in F igs. 7, 8 and 9 the shirt front is made as before with a double front strap A with two sides a a stitched to the shirt and a centre part a which can be folded to lie flat on either side and to which a semi-front B is attached. The semi-front B is of double thickness with a different quality or make of cloth on one side to that on the other. For example the side 6 is of s milar material to that of which the shirt is made and the side 6 is of a plain cloth and the part of the front 6 will have the cloth extended over and stitched to it to make a complete front.
As shown in Figs. 10 and 11 the invention may be applied to a front wholly separate from the shirt, the construction being similar to that hereinbefore described.
By this construction a clean shirt front can be presented when that first exposed be comes soiled.
What I claim as my invention and desire to protect by Letters Patent is A shirt or shirt front constructed with a double front strap stitched thereto with a central strap adapted to fold to either side, button holes at either side of the central strap and a semi-front affixed thereto which can be folded over to either side in a vertical plane to present a clean or fresh appearance substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
