Description

A. BONHEUR. CONVERTIBLE SCARF AND SWEATER. APPLICATION FILED MAILZZ. 192'0.
1,364,693E Patented Jan. 4, 1921.
} UNITED stares AMELIA BONHEUR, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
CONVERTIBLE SCARF AND SWEATER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 1, 1321.
Application filed March 27, 1920. Serial No. 369,219.
o all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AMELIA BONHEUR, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Convertible Scarf and Sweater, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention relates to garments and its object is to provide a new and improved convertible scarf and sweater arranged to permit the user to wear the garment either as a scarf or as a sweater to suit the wearer.
Another object is to provide a garment of the type mentioned which is very simple in construction and adapted to be folded into a small bundle, when not in use, for transportation or storage purposes.
With these and other objects in View, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction as hereinafter shown and described and then specifically pointed out in the claim.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure l is a front perspective view of the improved garment shown worn as a sweater;
Fig. 2 is a rear perspective view of the same; and
Fig. 3 is a plan view of the scarf in extended position.
The garment in its general construction comprises a scarf body 10 of a suitable knitted, woven, or other textile material, and this scarf body 10 is provided with a middle or a waist portion 11 and back and shoulder portions 12 and 13 on opposite sides of the middle portion 11. The middle or waist portion 11 is adapted to be passed around the waist of the wearers body to the rear thereof, and the back and shoulder portions 12 and 13 are crossed at the back of the wearers body and then passed over the wearers shoulders to the front of the wearers body, as plainly indicated in Figs. 1 and 2.
The middle or waist portion 11 is preferably somewhat extended at the upper edge and on this edge at the middle thereof is arranged a central fastening member 15, and similar fastening devices 16 and 17 are arranged on opposite sides of the central fastening member 15, the several fastening members 15, 16 and 17 being preferably in the form of buttons. The terminals of the back and shoulder portions 12 and 13 are provided at the upper corners with fastening members 20 and 21, preferably in the form of buttonholes adapted to be buttoned onto the central fastening member 15, and the said terminals of the back and shoulder portions 12 and 13 are further provided with fastening members 22, 23, of which the fastening members 22 are adapted to be engaged with the fastening members 17 while the fastening members 23 are adapted to be en gaged with the fastening members 16. The outermost fastening members 16 and 17 are located approximately at the sides of the wearers body when the garment is in use, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, so that the front ends of the back and shoulder portions 12 and 13 extend under the arms thus properly covering the chest of the wearer.
It will be noticed that by the arrangement described the upper corners of the back and shoulder portions 12 and 13 are arranged in overlapping relation at the front of the wearers body owing to their buttonholes 20 and 21 engaging the same central button 15. By this arrangement the back and shoulder portions 12 and 13 are held in symmetrical relation to each other and to the middle or waist portion 11 thus enhancing the appearance of the sweater.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent A convertible garment arranged to be worn either as a scarf or a sweater, comprising a scarf body having a middle or waist portion and back and shoulder portions, of which the middle or waist portion is adapted to be passed around the waist of the wearer, and the back and shoulder portions are adapted to be crossed at the back and passed over the wearers shoulders to the front of the wearers body, the said middie or Waist portion being provided along central fastening member on the middle or its upper edge with a central fastening Waist portion, and the remaining end. fasmember and at least two fastening members tening members are adapted to engage the 10 on each side of the said central fastening corresponding side fastening members at member, and fastening members at the outer the front or Waist portion of the scarf body. ends of the said back and shoulder portions,
of which one at each end engages the said AMELIA BONHEUR.
