GARMENT-SUPPORTER Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Jun 29, 1920.
Application filed May 15, 1919. Serial No. 297.317.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GERTRUDE R. BONE- following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in garment supporters.
The objects of this invention are to provide a garment supporter for infants use which will. serve as an effective diaper and stocking support and at the same time allow the child complete freedom of movement.
I accomplish the objects ofmy invention by the devices and means described in the following specification. The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claim. A structure which is a preferred embodiment of my invention is fully illustrated in the single perspective view in the accompanying drawing.
Shoulder straps l1 are provided having elastic ends 1-1 connected to front and rear diaper attaching straps 2 and 3. These straps are provided with safety pins 4; or other devices for attaching them to the infants diaper. A back strap 5 connects the shoulder straps 1-1 across the back and a little below the shoulder at about the waist line and a front cross strap 6 keeps the shoulder straps in place at the front. These cross straps are preferably elastic to pre vent injury to the spine and delicate organs in the pelvic cavity. A side strap 7, one at each side, is secured at the connection of the front and back straps 5 and 6 to the shoulder straps 1-1 and forms a loop down at each side of the person of the wearer. To this loop is secured a runner ring 9 to which is connected and carried thereby an elastic strap 8 with garment supporter fasteners 10-10 on the usual bifurcated strap type at the bottom.
In use this structure gives the child complete freedom of movement without any binding of the person. The shoulder straps are held properly in place by the front and backstraps and the elastic connections to the diaper supporting straps hold the diaper securely in place and permits free and easy movement of the wearer. The stockings are held up by the stocking supporters which play readily back and forth upon the supportlng loop 7 and do not cause any strain upon the person except on the shoulders when standing, the pull being evenly distributed between the back and front of the shoulder straps at each side.
While I have shown the structure using the elastic straps, the elastic straps might be omitted and a very satisfactory structure produced. The style of diaper supporting fastener whether of the safety pin or other style, and the style of hose supporter clasp are immaterial to the invention.
Having thus described my invention I wish to claim the same specifically in the form that I have it and also generally as indicated in the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
In a garment supporter, the combination of shoulder straps obliquely and centrally extended to a diaper supporting strap at front and back, cross straps at front and back to keep the shoulder straps in proper spaced relation, a loop strap with central dependmg portion at each side, the opposite ends of which are secured to the shoulder straps, and a stocking supporter on a suitable runner on each of said depending portlons, coacting substantially as described for the purpose specified.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal in the presence of two witnesses.
GERTRUDE BONEBRIGHT.
Witnesses:
