Description

March 23, 1943. M. H. SUNSERI CHILD'S GARMENT Filed Aug. 9, 1940 Patented Mar. 23, 1943 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE CHILUS GARMENT Marguerite H. Sunseri, Pittsburgh, Pa.
Application August 9, 1940, Serial No. 351,957
4 Claims.
This invention relates to a new and improved childs undergarment and more particularly, to an undergarment embodying an underwaist including back and front portions and a combined belly band and garment supporting portion.
Among the objects of the present invention are; to provide a simple, durable and easily laundered childs garment that may be readily applied and removed and a garment that is very comfortable when worn; a garment of the character stated, free of arm holes, free of buttons and buttonholes at the back of the garment, a garment that may be adjusted to accommodate it to children of different sizes, and one in which eyelets, for the reception of safety pins employed for securing diapers and other articles to the undergarment all conveniently located.
In the accompanying drawing, which illustrates an application of my invention:
Fig. 1 is a plan view showing the garment spread out;
Fig. 2, a perspective view of the garment showing the parts assembledancl connected; and
Fig. 3, a view showing the garment in position on an infant.
Referring to the drawing, the childs undergarment embodying my invention as illustrated and as preferred includes, a waist or body portion formed of a rear or back section 5 and a front section 6. The back 5 has formed integral therewith adjustable straps 7 having a series of buttonholes 8, the latter being designed, when the garment is assembled, to receive buttons 9 attached to the front section 5 of the waist.
.IIJ designates the belly band portion of the garment; the respective back and front sections 5 and 6 are stitched thereto along the lines II and I2. Band I is formed with a plurality of reinforced tabs l3, I4, I and it, each provided with eyelets e adapted for receiving safety pins, not shown, whereby a diaper and other articles may be attached to the undergarment or the band l0 thereof.
In addition to the tabs described the band is provided with a flap or tab [1 having buttonholes IS, the latter being designed to receive one of the sets of buttons l9 or 2|], a second flap 2| having buttonholes 22 for engagement with one of the sets of buttons 23 or 24 also secured to the band by tape or otherwise. Located adjacent one end of the band I0, I provide buttons 25, and adjacent the opposite end buttonholes 26 for securing the ends of the band together.
It will be noted that when the garment is put on a child the tab l3 will be positioned at the front and the tab I5 at the back of the garment, thus providing convenient points for securing a diaper to the garment, and that the other tabs I4 and I6 are located conveniently for securing the diaper, or stockings, for example, to the garment.
The garment may be made of any suitable material, as fabric, and preferably has a binding over the edges to give strength to and add to its appearance.
It will be apparent from the above described construction that the garment may be readily applied and removed from a child and is of such a character, due to the adjustability of the straps and the adjustability of the belly-band, that the garment may be utilized for children of varying sizes.
In putting the garment on a child, the back section is first positioned on the back of the child, then the front section and the band portion is folded over the front of the child and over the back section and the parts connected in the manner illustrated.
What I claim is:
1. In a childs undergarment, a body or waist portion including a back section and a front section, one of the sections foldable over the other section, one section having an adjustable strap and the other means for engaging the strap, and an adjustable belly-band portion, said back and front sections being attached to the belly-band by horizontal lines of stitching with the front section located adjacent an end thereof and the back section approximately centrally thereof and both sections extending upwardly from the band and cooperating with the band to cover the back, chest and stomach of a child.
2. In a childs undergarment, a body or waist portion including a back section and a front section, the front section being foldable over the other section, the back section having an adjustable strap and the other means for engaging the strap, and an adjustable belly-band portion having a plurality of depending tabs designed, when the garment is assembled, to be positioned at the front and rear central portions of the garment, said back and front sections being attached to the belly-band by horizontal lines of stitching with the front section located adjacent an end thereof and the back section approximately centrally thereof.
3. In a childs undergarment, an adjustable belly-band portion having a plurality of flaps formed with buttonholes and spaced apart sets of buttons for cooperation with the flaps, a body or waist portion including a back section and a front section, said sections attached to the band in spaced relation, the front section foldable over the back section in a manner to form open side spaces, one section having an adjustable strap and the other means for engaging the strap, said back and front sections being horizontally attached to the band and projecting upwardly therefrom.
4. In a childs undergarment, an adjustable belly-band portion having a plurality of flaps formed with buttonholes and spaced apart sets of buttons for cooperation with the flaps, a body or waist portion including a back section and a front section, said sections attached to the band in spaced relation, the front section foldable over the back section in a manner to form open side spaces, one section having an adjustable strap and the other means for engaging the strap, said back and front sections being horizontally attached to the band and projecting upwardly therefrom, and a plurality of depending tabs on the band designed when the garment is assembled to be positioned at the front and rear central portions of the garment.
