NETHER GARMENT Shoichi Nishimoto, Los Angeles, Calif.
Application .April 8, 1929, Serial No. 353,326
4 Claims. (01. 2-224) This invention relates to that class of nether garments provided with over-lapping front flaps for the purpose of affording double protection of warmth to the abdomen. 7
A feature of this invention is the construction and arrangement of a belt in combination with the back of the garment and the front flaps thereof to give additional support and Warmth without uncomfortable or injurious restriction of the bowels of the wearer and with anappropriate supportingof the abdomen. H a
An object of the invention isto provide a female garment adapted to support the abdomen during pregnancy without uncomfortable or injurious restriction.
A further object is to make provision for producing the garment at a minimum expense of material, and to allow freedom for toilet purposes at front and back of the wearer.
A feature of the invention is improved side extensions that are adapted to overlap each other at the front of the garment, and the provision of snap fasteners in such positions that they insure easyand ready attachment and detachment for the purpose-of securing the garment on the person-and removing it from the personwithout any likelihood that the attachment may become loosened so as to allow the garment to fall.
The garment is adaptable for both masculine and feminine wear; and is shown herein with a crotch strap adapted to provide a menstrual pad support and adapted for omission or application as occasion may require. 7
I also provide convenientand firm attachment means for supporting the stockings for female wear.- ,y
Other object s; advantages and features ofinvention may appear from the accompanying drawings, the subjoined detailed description and the appended claims. H
The garment may be madeof various suitable materials and may be of various sizes, shapes and 1 proportions. V l V The accompanying drawings illustrate the invention in a form at 'present deemed preferable,
but I do not confine the invention to the particular construction shown, as the same may be varied within the judgment of the manufacturer without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Figure 1 is a fragmental perspective front View I of the garment as the same would appear on the person of the wearer; the crotch strap being unfastened at the front and lowered to expose construction that would otherwise be hidden.
5 Fig. 2 is a view of the top and inner face of the crotch strap detached, with front end up rear end down.
Fig. 3 is a rear view of the garment closed, wit hout the crotch strap, and withthe belt unfastened; dot and dash lines across and at .theleft side of the view, indicate the position of the belt after it has been brought across the back, and before its free end has been carried around in front of the person of the wearer, not shown.
Fig. 4 is a fragmental rear view of the garment spread out, aportion of the belt being broken away to contract the view; the crotch strap being omitted. i l
Fig. 5 is a view showing patterns or pieces by] which the garment may be made- The combined body and leg piece a may be of any suitable fabric or material and in outline has the waist line top edge 1, the mid line back edge 2, the rear arcuate toilet notch edge .3, the inner front leg seam edge 4, the arcuate bottom leg edge 5, the outer front leg seam edge 6, the front toilet notch edge '7; the front flap edge 8 and the side flap end edge 9, and is provided at 10 and 11 with darts to give curvature to the waist band 12 which comprises a strip 1) of strong material folded over at the edges and stitched to the'top edges. 1- of the body and leg pieces a, a, that go to make up} the garment. It is understood that the belt rein-.. forcement 13 may be of one piece, but it is shown made up of four pieces, 0, c, d, and d, fastened together and fastened to the upper parts of the body and leg pieces' The free end 14 of the belt w isshown made up of the pieces e and f fastened together at g and to the endsof the belt reinforcement at h. I
15 and 15' are front flaps formed of side extensions of-the back and are constructed to overlap and thus to form two plies in front of the abdo- 1 men. The ends of the over-lapping front ,extensions-or flaps l5 and 15. are practically atjright.
angles to the top edge 1 of the garment andare reinforced by end pieces lo formed of the pieces: i of the pattern, stitched .in place- 1'7 is the buckle 1. strap formed of the pattern piece :1, appropriately folded over at its edges and passed through the-1001118 of the buckle 19, and fixed :to the-. end of the over-lapping flap 15.
The back pieces 0, c, are broadened at their meeting ends as at 20 and are narrowed to the width of the strips 0. to which they are secured.
The stocking supporter straps 21 are fixed to reinforcements 21 on the inside of the body from the lower edge of the belt reinforcement to the point at which the supporter straps are attached and hang down inside the leg and are provided with the fasteners 23.
When the parts are assembled the toilet notches at 7 of the united body and leg pieces form at the front, a front toilet opening 24 and teners 31 to engage complementary fasteners 3.2
the rear toilet notches 3 form at the rear, the toilet opening 25.
Provision is made whereby the free ends of the flaps are detachably-fastenedlto the front.
The flap member 15 is provided at its end on the outer face with snap fastener members 26, and the body member a. is provided on its inner face with snap members 26', complementary to the" snap members 26 so that when the flap-is closed over the abdomen of the wearer, the snap members 26 and 26' may be engaged witheach otherto hold such flap member in place; and the flap member 15 is provided on its inner face with snap fastener members 27 to engage complementary snap fastener members 27 on the outer side of the body member a so-that when thefia'ps 15 and 15', are in place, the flap 15 will overlapthe flap I5 and both "flaps will 'beysecurely connected to the body, and the belt may be 'broughtaround the body portionand the'free end of the belt may be secured by the-buckle -19.
The crotch strap 28 has'expanded front and rear ends 29, 30; The front end 29 has snap fason'the'outside of the flap 15, and the expanded end 30 is provided with snap fasteners 33 complementary to the snap'fasteners34 that are secured to the outside of the body at the lower edges of the' belt reinforcement 0, 0'.
a'singleline of beauty whichextends alongthe upper'edges of the-adjacent portion of the legs and around the margins of the notch openings ,at-Zi so that when the'garment is in place, the
