This invention relates to 'new 'and'u'seful improvements in a removable crotch piece'for ladies undergarments.
More particularly, the inventionprolposes the construction of a crotch piece for use with a ladys undergarment; such as a "girdle,c'orset, foundation garment or the like, which is completely removable and which can be worn with'complete comfort when mounted in "position cn'the garment.
Another object of the present inventionpr'oposes the constructionof a removable crotch piece which can be used with anygarment designed to encircle the bottom portion orthe torso of the human body and which is constructed of a piece of cloth arranged to'be extended beneath the crotch of the wearer'ina manner to have its end portions extended upwards along the inside faces of the front and rear wall portions of the undergarment.
Still another object of the "present invention proposes a novel means forrele'asablyattaching the end portions of the crotch'piece't'o the inside faces of the front and rear wall portions of the undergarment in a mannerso that the crotch piece may be completely separated from the undergarment to be washed separately from 'the'undergarment, 'when the crotch piece becomes soiled,'so as to reduce the number of washings to which the undergarment need-be subjected resulting in an increased-lifeidrtheundergarment.
A further object of the p'resen't inven'tionproposes providing elastic straps which have their ends attached to the top corners ofl'th'eend portions of the crotch piece seas to encircle the top portions of the legs beneath the undergarment in a manner to assistthe releasable attaching means in supporting the crotchz pi'ec'e in position.
A still further object of the present invention proposes forming the crotch piece with-a narrow intermediate portion for'extension beneath the crotch of the wearer'ina manner'toreduce the number of folds that will be formedwhen the crotch piece is mountedinposition.
The present invention further'p'roposes a novel means for vertically adjustably mounting the end portions of the crotchpiece on'the insideifaces of the undergarment so that the vertical positionof the crotch piece with relati-onto th'ezun'clergarment can be adjusted' to adesired comfortable position.
Still further, thepresent invention 'proposes -a novel means for permitting the operative length of the'elastic straps to be adiusted -in a manner to be comfortablyengageable about the "tops of the legs of difierentcircumferences.
It is a further-object of the present invention to provide a new and improved removable crotch piece of a ladysundergarm'entwhich-is simple and durable and which can be-manuiacturedand sold at a reasonable cost. I V
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, ref-- erence willbe hadto the following'descripti-on and accompanying drawings, and to the-appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularlyset forth.
In the accompanying drawingsform'ing' a material part of this disclosure: 7 V v Fig. 1 is a-per'spective view-of aladys girdle having a removable crotch piec'e'constructe'd in accordance with the present invention.

Fig. 6 is a View similar toFigi 2. but illustrating a modification of the present invention.
Fig. '7 is a partial insideelevational' view'looking in the direction of" the 1ine'1-'l onFig; 6.
Fig. 8 is another View similar to Fig. 2, but illustrating the undergarment constructed in accordance with a still further modification of the present invention.
Fig. '9 is a perspective "view'of the crotchpiece, per se, used in the form ofthe invention shown in Fig. 8.
The removable crotch piece, according to'the form of the invention shown in Figs. 1 to 5, is shown applied to a ladys undergarment '2o-de+ signed to encircle the lower portion'of the human torso and which has *a front wall portionZI'and rear wall portion 22. On the-drawings;the undergarment 20 is illustrated in theform "of a girdle formedof two-way stretch 'elast'rc'material having a front 'pa-ne1*23 of non=elastic "material and the usual stocking garter members-N'secured to the bottom edges thereof at the front'and back. This illustration of agirdl-e is by way of example only, as the removable-crotch piece of the'present invention is equally well adaptedfor use inccr= sets, roundation'garments and'cther similar ty es of undergarments.
Further details of the construction of the undergarment 20 will not be given in this specification as such details form no part of this invention and are generally known to those skilled in the art to which the present invention pertains.
Th crotch piece 25 is formed of a blank of cloth material having a narrow intermediate portion 26 and a front end portion 21 and a rear end portion 28. The rear end portion 28 is wider than the front end portion 21 and the intermediate portion 26 is narrower than either of the end portions. The crotch piece is positioned with the narrow intermediate portion 26 extended beneath the crotch of the wearer, with the front end portion 21 extended upward along the inside face of the front wall portion 2| of the undergarment 20 and with the rear end portion 28 extended upward along the inside face of the rear wall portion 22 of the undergarment.
The crotch piece 25 is preferably formed of adjacent longitudinal halves of cloth material secured together by stitches along a longitudinal seam line 29. The peripheral edge portions of the crotch piece 25 are turned inwards and covered by a length of tape 30 secured in position by spaced lines of stitches 3|, see Fig. 5.
Means is provided for releasably attaching the end portions 21 and 28 of the crotch piece to the inside faces of the front and rear wall portions of the undergarment 20. This means comprises hooks 32, secured by pieces of cloth 33, to the end portions of the crotch piece 25. The hooks 32 are releasably engageable with complementary loops 34, see Fig. 2 mounted on the inside faces of the front and rear wall portions of the undergarment.
The hooks 32 are mounted on the end portions 2'! and 28 of the crotch piece 25 intermediate the width thereof, and elastic straps 35 have their ends attached to the top corners of the end portions 21 and 28 of the undergarment so as to encircle the top portions of the wearers legs beneath the undergarment 20, as shown in Fig. 1. Thus, the straps 35 assist the hooks 32 and the loops 34 in supporting the crotch piece in position. As shown in Fig. 5, the ends of the straps 35 are inserted in position between the adjacent faces of the inturned peripheral edge portions of the crotch piece 25 and the tape 30 and secured in position by the same lines of stitches 3| which secure the tape 30 in position.
The top end edges of the crotch piece are inclined downward and outward from the hooks 32 to the top corners thereof where the ends of the straps 35 are secured to the top corners of the crotch piece 25.
It is believed that the method of donning the undergarment 2!] having the removable crotch piece 25, in accordance with the present invention, will be obvious from the foregoing description. It will be appreciated that the undergarment may be provided with more than one of the crotch pieces 25, so that while one is being laundered the other may be used. As the crotch pieces become'dirty and soiled more quickly than the undergarment 20, it is possible to remove the crotch piece 25 being used permitting it to be laundered independently of the undergarment. This will materially lengthen the life of the undergarment by reducing the number of washings to which it need be subjected.
In the modification of the invention shown in Figs. 6 and 7, the construction of the crotch piece 25 is similar to that of the previous form, differing merely in the provision of a means for vertically adjustably and releasably securing the end portions 21 and 28 of the crotch piece to the inside faces of the front and rear wall portions of the undergarment 20. This construction permits the vertical position of the crotch piece 25 to be adjusted with relation to the undergarment 20 to a position which most comfortably suits the requirements of the wearer of the garment.
The inside faces of the front wall portion 2| and the rear wall portion 22 of the undergarment 2!], in the modification of the present invention, are provided with vertical spaced lines of loops 34 with which the hooks 32 on the end portions 21 and 28 of the crotch piece 25 may be selectively engaged to secure the crotch piece 25 to the undergarment 20 at a desired elevated position.
In other respects this form of the invention is similar to that described in connection with the first form of the invention and like reference numerals identify like parts in each of the several views.
The modification of the invention shown in Figs. 8 and 9 is similar to that shown in Figs. 6 and 7, differing therefrom by the fact that the elastic straps 35 are each formed of separate sections 35 and 35 with means for adjustably connecting together the overlapped inner ends of the sections 35 and 35 so as to adjust the straps 35' to fit comfortably about legs of different circumferences.
The outer ends of the sections 35 and 35 of the straps 35 are secured to the top corners of the end portions 2'! and 28 of the crotch piece 25 as in the previous forms of the invention. The inner end of the section 35 of each strap 35', is provided with a pair of snap fastener elements 40 which are selectively engageable with two of four complementary snap fastener elements 4| mounted on the inner end of the section 35 In other respects this form of the invention is similar to that shown in Figs. 6 and 7 and like reference numerals identify like parts in each of the several views.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications comin within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:
1. In combination with a ladys undergarment having opposed front and rear wall portions with inside faces, a separable crotch piece comprising a piece of cloth material having a narrow intermediate portion for extension beneath a wearers crotch and wider front and rear end portions ex tended upward along the inside faces of the front and rear wall portions to have top corners located within the undergarment, opposed straps secured at their ends to the top corners of said front and rear end portions to engage about the wearer's legs beneath the undergarment, opposed vertical lines of spaced fasteners mounted on the inner faces of the front and rear wall portions, and single complementary fasteners mounted on said front and rear end portions midway between said top corners for selective engagement with desired fasteners of said vertical lines of spaced fasteners for vertically adjusting the position of said piece of cloth material with relation to the undergarment.
2. In combination with a ladys undergarment having opposed front and rear wall portions with inside faces, a separable crotch piece comprising a piece of cloth material having a narrow intermediate portion for extension beneath a wearer's crotch and wider front and rear end portions extended upward along the inside faces of the front and rear wall portions to have top corners located within the undergarment, opposed straps secured at their ends to the top corners of said front and 7 rear end portions to engage about the Wearers legs beneath the undergarment, opposed vertical lines of spaced fasteners mounted on the inner faces of the front and rear Wall portions, and single complementary fasteners mounted on said front and rear end portions midway between said top corners for selective engagement with desired fasteners of said vertical lines of spaced fasteners for vertically adjusting the position of said piece of cloth material with relation to the undergartended upward along the inside faces of the front and rear wall portions to have top corners located within the undergarment, opposed straps secured at their ends to the top corners of said front and rear end portions to engage about the wearers legs beneath the undergarment, opposed vertical lines of spaced fasteners mounted on the inner faces of the front and rear wall portions, and single complementary fasteners mounted on said front and rear end portions midway between said top corners for selective engagement with desired fasteners of said vertical lines of spaced fasteners for vertically adjusting the position of said piece of cloth material with relation to the undergarment, each of said straps being formed of end aligned lengths of elastic material having adjacent ends overlapped and outer ends stitched to the top corners of said front and rear end portions, and complementary snap fastener elements on the adjacent faces of the overlapped ends of said lengths of elastic material for adjustably sccuring together said overlapped ends.
