Description
W. ROEMER.
Improvement in Buckles.
N0. 131,028. Patented sep.3,1872.
'UNITED STATES PATENT CFFICE.
WILLIAM ROEMER, OF NEWARK, NEW `JERSEY.
IMPROVEMENT IN BUCKLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 13 1,028, dated September 3, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM ROEMER, of Newark, in the State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Buckles, of which the following is a speci' .catiom My invention relates to that class of buckles used for ladies or childrens waist-belts; and consists in the arrangement of a hook on one end ofthe belt to be hooked into the tonguebuckle, of which the part A is generally made ornamental and fancy, and very often of paper, leather, or any other material, in imitation of more valuable material, is attached to one end, D, of the waist-belt. B is a plate, riveted, by means of the rivets o, to the other end D', of the waist-belt. When the buckle is made with only one tongue,a,ashererepresented, two hooks, n, are made on the outer end of this plateB, hooking into the ton gue-bolt m. When the buckle is made with two tongues, either one hook is made on the end of the plate B,
hooking on the tongue-bolt between the tongues, or three hooks may be made to take hold of the tongue-bolt, between and above and below the tongues.
By this means the fastening of the belt is made more simple, and the plate B or the end D of the belt, covering the tongue-bolt and end of the tongue, gives a smoother surface and prevents the tearing of the dress.
I am aware that imitation buckles have been before attached to one yend of a waistbelt, and a hook or hooks made at the other end to fasten the belt together; but in all cases an extra bar or loop was fastened to the tongue-bolt, into which this hook was hooked, making thereby this fastening more complicated, and causing the dress, by the continued friction, soon to wear out.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In'combination with the tongue-bolt m in buckles for ladies waist-belts, a plate, B, with one or more hooks, n, when said hooks are hooked directly on said tongue-bolt, substantially as and for the purpose herein set forth.
WILLIAM ROEMER. Witnesses:
HENRY E. RoEDnR, JOHN K. SnuPsoN.
