NAPETRS, PHOTO-LrmDGRAPHER. WASHINGTON, D CA i NITED STATES GEORGE E. EAGEE, OE BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPRCVEM ENT IN O'VERALLS.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 167,319, dated August 31, 1875; application led March 19, 1875.
CASE G.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE R. EAGER, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Pantaloon-Garments, Blouses, Sto.; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part Ot' this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents a front isometrical perspective view of a garment having my iinprovement applied thereto; and Fig. 2, a horizontal section through the waistband, leaving the straps uncut. Fig. 3 represents a rear isometrica-l perspective view of a modified form of the improvement; and Fig. 4, atransverse horizontal section through the waistband, the straps being left uncut. Fig.5 represents a plan of one of the blank buckles detached from the garment.
My invention relates to an improvement in the method of adjusting garments to persons of different sizes, patented to me June 11, 1872.
My improvement consists in combining, with a hollow waistband provided with a couple of adjusting straps Aand buckles, a couple of blank buckles or other reeving device, arranged within the hollow of the waistband, through which to pass the straps, to facilitate the adjustment ofthe garment.
To enable others skilled in the art to make,`
construct, and use myimprovement, Iwill now proceed to describe it in detail, omitting aparticular description of such parts as are old and not essential to a full understanding of my present improvement, here premising that the invention is equally applicable to all kinds of pantaloon and other garments, such as pantaloons, drawers, overalls, blouses, Sto.
In Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing the hollow `waistband a is represented as extending about half-way around the garment; but it may be extended as much farther around as may be desired. At or about the middle of the back, and within the hollow waistband, are secured two blank buckles or metallicloops,b b. (Shown in Fig. 2.) Within the hollow waistband are arranged two straps,.c and c, one on each side. One end, d, of each of these straps is stitched fast to the back ofthe waistband opposite, or nearly Opposite, to the openings c e', through which the loose ends of the straps are vmade to project. The straps thus secured at one end are passed along` on the inside of the hollow band, and through the loops or blank buckles b b, the strap c through loop b', and the strap c through loop b, and each then carried back and out through its respective opening e or e', and thence through a buckle, f, where itis made fast after each has been drawn sufficiently tight to adjust the garment to the wearer. To facilitate the adjustment the loops or blank buckles b bj should each be provided with a friction roll, n. (Seen in Fig. 5.)
The modification shown in Figs. 3 and 4 differs from that shown in Figs. l and 2 only in that the fastening-buckles ff and openings e e in the hollow waistband are arranged together at the rear, just where the blank buckles b b are arranged in the other plan, while the latter b b are arranged at or about the position formerly occupied bythe openin gs e e'. The Operation is the same in each case.
In Fig. 4t the straps c c', buckles ff, and waistband are represented as all being sewed together, which gives a rm and substantial anchorage to the buckles f f. The two straps c c may be made in one piece, as shown in the drawings, or in two separate pieces.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
Ahollow waistband for garments, when such is constructed and provided with two straps, c c', attached to the waistband, two buckles, f f, and two blank buckles, b b', in the manner and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as,
my Own I atlix my signature in presence of Witnesses:
MOSES S. TOWER, ABNEE J. TOWER.
