UNITED STATES GEORGE E. EAGER, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
\ IMPROVEMENT IN OVERALLS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 167,321, dated August 31, 1875; application filed March 19, 1875. i
' CASE 1.
To all whom "it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE E. EAGER, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain Improvements in Pantaloon-Garments, Blouses, &c., of which the following is a specification, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 represents an isometrical perspective view of a garment having my improvement applied thereto; and Fig. 2 a horizontal section of the same, as taken through the waistband, leaving the adjusting-straps uncut. Figs. 3 and 4 represent similar views of a modification of the improvement shown in Figs. 1 and 2. Fig. 5 represents a plan of the double loops for relieving the adjustingstraps at the back.
My invention relates to an improvement on the method of adjusting garments to persons of diii'erent sizes, patented to me June 11, 1872; and consists in providing the interior or hollow of the waistband with four loops or blank buckles, through which two adjusting-straps are to be reeved, each strap for this purpose to be provided with a reeving-loop in front, and another in rear, so that in drawing on either of the straps the side on which the strap thus drawn is arranged will be simultaneously drawn and adjusted as well in front as in rear, thus enabling the garment to be uniformly adjusted all round by drawing on both.
To enable others skilled in the art to make, construct, and use my improvement, I will now proceed to describe it in detail, omitting a particular description of such parts. as are old and not essential to a full understand ing of this invention, here premising that the invention is equally applicable to all kinds of pantaloons and other garments, such as pantaloons, drawers, overalls, blouses, &c.
For the purposes of this improvement the waistband a is made hollow all round, and is provided with two openings, 6 and 6, one on each side, through which the unattached ends of the two straps b b are respectively allowed to pass-that is to say, strap b through opening e, and strap b through opening e.
with a friction-roll 'to facilitate the passage through them of the straps b I). At each end of the front part of the hollow waistband isarranged and secured a similar or blank buckle-one, d, for strap b, and one, (1, for strap 1).
To one side of the front part of the waistband, nearly opposite opening 6, is secured one end of strap 11, the other end of which is then passed through loop d, and thence along the hollow to the other end of that half of the waistband, whence it is reeved through loop 0, and then brought back and out through opening 0, where it is made to pass through a buckle, g, attached to the front half of that side of the waistband. In this condition it is ready to adjust that side of the garment.
In the drawing, the attached end of strap 1) is shown as being sewed to the inner side of the waistband, but it may just as well be stitched to the front side, in which case all that would be necessary to do would be to reeve it through loop d from the opposite side, and then onto the other loop 0, in the same manner as before. Again, strap 1) is shown attached to the front half of the garment, but it may just as well be attached to the rear half, in which case all that is necessary to do is to reverse the buckle and attach it to that portion of the waistband which lies in the rear of opening 6. Strap b is attached at one end to the waistband, inside of its hollow, in the same manner as strap b, and, like the latter, is then reeved through its loops d and c, and brought back and out through opening 6, and connected with buckle g.
The modification shown in Figs. 3 and 4 dlfi'ers only from that shown in Figs. 1 and 2 in that the buckles g g, which are fastened to the waistband, are dispensed with, and, instead of these, a buckle, h, is fastened to the end of either of the straps b I), through which the end of the other is then passed for and four loops or blank buckles, 0 c and d the adjusting and fastening of the garment (1, in the. manner and for the purposes set in front. forth.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters GEORGE EAGER' Patent, is-- w Witnesses: I
A waistband for garments, when con- MosEs S. TOWER, strueted and provided with two straps b b, ABNER J. TOWER.
