GEORGE R. EAGER, or Bofs'roN, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN OVERALLS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 167,316, dated August 31, 1875; application filed March 19, 1875.
(List: 0.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE R. EAG'rER, of Boston, in the county of Sufiolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pantaloon-Garments, Blouses, &c., and I do hereby declarethat the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification, in which Figure 1 represents an isometrical perspective view of a garment having my improvement applied thereto; and Fig. 2, a partial horizontal section of the same as taken through the hollow waistband, the adjustingstraps being left uncut.
My invention relates to that class of garments provided with a hollow waistband, and with an adjusting strap and buckle, which was patented to me June 11, 1872, and numbered 125751 In that patent the garment was provided with but a single strap and buckle wherewith to make the necessary adjustment to fit persons of difierent sizes. i
My present improvement consists in providing the garments with four adjusting straps and buckles, suitably arranged to connect the one with the other at the sides of the garment, each strap beinginclosed in a hollow formed by a suitably-constructed waistband. It further consists in facing with leather, or other stout and suitable material, the opening or openings on the waistband, through' which the adjusting-straps are made to project, to save wear and tear.
To enable others skilled in the art to make, construct, and use my improvement, I will now proceed to describe it in detail, omitting a particular description of such parts as are old and not essential to a full understanding of the improvement-here premising that the invention is equally applicable to all kinds of pantaloons and other garments, such as pantaloons, drawers, overalls, blouses, 860.
In the drawings, the improvement is represented as being applied to a pantaloon-garment, in which A represents the front and B the rear of the garment. The garment is shown as opening in front in the ordinary way. The waistband is made hollow, and is provided with two sets of openings, to a and c 0, one set at each side. Each of these openings may, if desired, be protected by a shield, d, of leather or other stout and suitable material, to prevent tearing or raveling. This is deemed advisable in all cases, as it prevents much tear and wear on the garment. The waistband, thus constructed, is provided with four .straps, the inner end of two, cl d, of which are stitched fast to the front ends of the waistband, as shown at f f Fig. 2, while the inner ends of the ther two, h It", are stitched fast to the middle of the back, or the two latter may form a single strap, stitched fast at their middle to the back, as shown at g of the same figure. The other or unattached ends of the four straps are made to project through the openings at a and c c in the waistband, the ends of h d through openings a a, and ends of h d through openings 0 0. Between the openings a a are secured to the waistband two buckles, at and n, the one m to connect with strap h, and the one a for strap 01, there being two other buckles, o and s, similarly arranged, and attached to the waistband between the openings 0 c for connection with straps d and h, strap d with buckle o, and strap h with buckle s.
The waistband being thus constructed and provided with the straps d h, d and h, and their respective buckles a, m, 0, and s, it will be apparent that the garment can be adjusted with great nicety, so as to make an excellent fit, as each quarter of the waist can be separately and independently adjusted, and thus prevent too much of a drag on any one portion of the garment.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. A waistband for pantaloon and other garments, when constructed and provided FFICE. L
