Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PETER L. GARIEPEE, OF MILTON, VERMONT.
BUCKLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 443,511,dated December 30, 1890.
Application filed September 8, 1890. Serial No. 364,228. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, PETER L. GARIEPEE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Milton, in the county of Ohittenden and State of Vermont, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Harness-Buckles; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings,
that is adapted to a single draft-harness as well as to the many other uses to which this class of buckles are especially designed; and
it consists in the details of construction, substantially as shown in the drawings and hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, A B represent the two sections which compose the buckle, the latter section having the removable bar l, the former section consisting of the base-plate 0, having holes a. for attaching the buckle to the strap of the harness. This base-plate above described forms a brace to the buckle, and materially increases its strength, which is considered of material importance in heavy draft-harness, the plate also forming a strengthening-support for the side bars I), which are cast with the plate. The side bars bterminate in loops 0 d for the straps of the harness, and extending from the sides of the bars, respectively, are double loops cf and single loop 9, the double loop being for the thill-strap and belly-band.
The base-plate O has slots h at the junction of said strap and the side bars I) to receive the section B of the buckle, which I term the clasp portion of the buckle, and may be constructed in anysuitable manner, but preferably as shown.
The base-plate O has crossbar 2', from which projects the tongue or stud k of the buckle.
The double loops e f are arranged on the opposite sides, depending entirely as to whether the buckle is aleft or a right hand buckle.
There may be many changes in the minor details of construction, so long as such changes come within ordinary mechanical skill, and therefore I reserve the right to modify such parts of the buckle as necessity demands, providing the principal of the invention is not aitected thereby.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- In a harness-buckle, the combination of the section 13, having the removable cross-bar Z, with the section A, the latter having baseplate 0 with side bars I), the latter extending out beyond the plate and terminating in loops 0 d, the single loop g and double loops ef, extending out from .the side bars, and the stud or tongue 7.: and slots h, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
PETER L. GARI EPEE.
