N. PETERS, FHOTO-LIY KOGRAPHER WASHINGTON D C UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM G. BUNKER, OF PORTAGE CITY, WISCONSIN.
IMPROVEMENT IN HARNESS-BUCKLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. I 75,4l5, dated March 23, 1876; application filed 4 February 10. 1876.
-with a couple of my loop clasps or fasteners.
applied, and Fig. 2 is a perspective view of theloop-clasp itself.
My invention relates to that class ofdevices used for connecting the ends of harness or other straps together, or for attaching buckles, rings, or other a-rticles to them without the aid of any further fastening. It consists of a single piece of metal, consisting of two side pieces curved or shaped alike, and connected at their upturned ends with cross-ba1's,a lower cross-bar, provided with a center-pin, connecting them at the lowest points of their sides.
In constructing my device, I cast it, out of any suitable metal, in one piece, and in the form clearlyshown in Fig. 2. V In this figure a a represent the sides, b b the upper andend cross bars, and c the lower and intermediate cross-bar, with upward-projecting short pin 61. Thesidesa a are curved or shaped, as shown, so that their upturned ends and the cross-bars b b connecting them may be in the same plane, and so that the lower cross-bar a may be a little nearer the end bar b than 'it is to the end bar b, and in a plane far enough below them to allow the insertion of the ends of one or more straps. i
The method of applying this device will be readily seen by referenceto Fig. 1, showing a strap having-an additional strap and buckle attached at one end, and a ring at the other. In both instances the end of the strap is passed under the upper bars b b, then looped and passed back over the crossbar c, and secured to the pin d, which enters a hole in the strap. An additional strap for use inconnection with the buckle may be attached, as shown in the same figure.
7 As is obvious, this loo 'i'fastener may be used in and about various parts of a harness,.for adjusting the same, and may be ornamented and nickel-plated.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is- A metal loop clasp or fastener, A, provided with the bars or keepers b b{ in the same plane, and with a single crossbar, 0, having a pin thereonbetween andbelow the keepers, all constructed as herein shown and described, and for the purpose specified.
The above specification of my said invention signed and witnessed at Portage City this 2d day of February, A. D. 1876;
WILLIAM G. BUNKER.
