IMPROVED MODE OF FASTENINGS ON BUCKLES.
Specification forming partof Letters Patent N0. 44,530, datcd October 4, 1864.
To a/ZZ whom, t 111/114./ concern:
Beit known that I, LEWIs HILBRIGHT, of Newark, in the county of Essex, in the State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Mode of Fastenings on Buckles and Rest for the Buckleflonguc; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of it, reference being had to the accompanying drawing.
The nature of my invention consists in aparticular combination of a buckle for fastening straps of shoes, harness, wearing-apparel, trunks, &o.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
I construct my buckle of sheet-brass, brass or iron castings in any form; but in order to obviate the sewing or riveting of the strap, and to give the holding-tongue the necessary strength, I cut and stamp this tongue out of one piece in a Inanner to prevent the strap to slip through, this tongue being marked A A. To allow the strap to be pulled over on the opposite side easily, I bend up the tongue D D, showing two ears, B B, forming a loop for allowing the end of the strap to be pulled through easily. I further provide the frame with a cross-bar, C, being one piece with the frame and pressed down from the inside, forming a rest for the tongue D D.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-` l. The fastening A A, representing two points of the tongue'D D, out and stamped out of one piece in a manner to hold and prevent the strap to slipv out.
2. The two ears B B, bent upon the tongue D D, to form a loop to allow the end of the strap to slip through easily.
3. The crossbar C of t-he buckle-frame E E,
'pressed down from the inside and forming a rest for the tongue D, rest and frame being one piece. v
4. The fastening of two straps with three tongues, which consist of one solid piece.
