Description

F. J. DEISZ.
COMBINED BUCKLES AND SNAP-HOOKS Nm181,053. Patented. Aug.l5, 1876.
WH'NESSES XZL NFETERS, PNOTO'LITHGGRAFHER, WASHINGTON, D C.
UNITED STATES FRANCIS J. DEISZ, OF PIERCE CITY, MISSOURI.
IMPROVEMENT IN COMBINED BUCKLE AND SNAP-HOOK.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 181,053, dated August 15, 1876 application tiled July 11,1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FnANc-Is J osEPH DEIsZ, ot' Pierce City, in the county of Lawrence and State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Combined Buckle and Snap-Hook, of which the following is a specification:
t Figure 1 is a front view of my improved device. Fig.2 is a longitudinal section of the same, taken through the line as as, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved buckle and snap-hook for connecting a breast-strap with the hames in such a way as to be easily attached and detached,
, which will hold the straps securely, and will save leather and time in their manufacture.
The invention consists in the combination of the slotted wedge-block, having a rigid tongue formed upon the forward part of its inner side, and the screw or bolt, with the shank of a snap-hook, provided with the loop, the keeper, and the lugs, as hereinafter fully described.
A is the spring snap hook, upon the outer end of the shank of which is formed a loop, B, to receive one end of the strap C. Upon the side edges of the shank of the snap-hook A, a little in front of the loop 13, are formed lugs C, through which is passed a bolt or screw, D. The bolt or screw D also passes through an inclined slot in the wedgeblock E, which is thus secured in place. Upon the inner side of the forward part of the Wedgeblock E is formed a rigid tongue, 6, which passes through the strap C, and enters a short longitudinal slot in the body of the shank. Upon the outer side of the forward part of the shank of the snap A is for ed a keeper,F, to confine the free end of the strap C.
With this construction any strain upon the strap causes the wedge-block E to clamp it more tightly, and hold it more securely, the tongue 6 preventing the strap from slipping before the Wedge-block has clamped it firmly.
By this construction the strain will be distributed through the entire breadth of the strap, so that there will be no danger of the tongue-hole tearing out.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of the slottedwedge-block E, having a rigid tongue, 6', formed upon the forward part on its inner side, and the screw or bolt D, with the shank of a snap-hook, A, provided with the loop B, the keeper F, and the lugs C, substantially as herein shown and described.
FRANCIS JOSEPH DEISZ.
