Description
(ModeL) P. L. CLARK.
BUCKLE AND SNAP HOOK.
No. 243,758. Patented July 5,1881.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANKLIN L. CLARK, OF LANCASTER, PENNSYLVANIA.
BUCKLE AND SNAP-HOOK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 243,758, dated July 5, 1881.
Application filed February 23, 1881. (Model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANKLIN L. CLARK, of Lancaster, in the county of Lancaster and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Buckles and Snap-Hooks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to combined buckles and snap-hooks; and it consists in the construction and. arrangement of parts, as hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the annexed drawings, in which similar letters indicate corresponding parts in the several views, Figures 1 and 2 are top and bottom plan views. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section on the line ocrr, showing the buckle attached to a strap. Fig. 4 is a side view.
A is the buckle-frame, which is slightly curved from end to end, and provided on each side with lugs or bearings a, in which are pivoted the buckle-tongue and snap-hook. The body of the hook B and buckle-tongue b, with their pivots, are made in one piece, the pivoted end being of such width that it forms wings or projections b b, which fit snugly within the buckle-frame, and are provided with a transverse beveled edge on each side of the tongue I), that presses firmly against the attached strap and holds it in proper position under all circumstances.
On the under side of the hooked piece B is the usual snap or spring tongue, 0.
It will be observed that when tension is applied to a strap to which my buckle and snap- 4o hook is attached the strain will be equally distributed throughout the buckle-frame, and that the back of the snap-hookwill be pressed firmly against the strap, which is thus held securely between it and the keeper or end cross-piece 5 of the frame.
The device will be found of great utility as an attachment for harness, and may be used to advantage in various situations.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination, with the buckle A, of the combined hook B and buckle-tongue b, the hook being provided with a spring-tongue, and the tongue of the buckle being formed in one piece with the hook and provided with projections b I), having a transverse beveled edge on each side of the tongue, that is adapted to press firmly against the attached strap, which is thus securely held between the back of the snap-hook and end of the buckle-frame, substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed mysignature in 65 presence of two witnesses.
FRANKLIN L. CLARK.
Witnesses JAMES M. CLARK, W. B. WILEY.
