'UNITED STATES PATENT EFICE.
FRANCIS J. DEISZ, 0E PIERCE CITY, MIssoURI.
IMPROVEMENT IN COMBINED SNAP-HOOK AND BUCKLE.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. [9 M8112, dated June 12, 18,77; application filed April 30, 1877.
To all whom zt may concern Be it known that I, FRANCIS J osEPH DEISZ, of Pierce City, in the county of Lawrence and State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Combined Snap-Hook and Buckle, of which the following is la specitication Figure l is a front view of my improved Fig. 2 is a rear View of the same. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section of the same taken through the line ww, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish a combined snap-hook'and buckle for connectupon its side edges, and the snap-hook formed upon the forward end of the said plate, as hereinaiter fully described. 1
A is tlie main trame of the buckle, the end bars of which are slightly curved, land its side bars 'are arched and are connected at their middle points by the "central cross-bar, so as to form a space for the passage ot' the straps between the central and end cross-bars of the frame A.
To the center ot' the center cross-bar of the frame A is attached a rigid tongue, a', which passes through the straps and is designed to keep them from getting outot' place when'not.
under tension.
B is a plate of such a width as to fit in between the arched side bars of the frame A, and in which is formed a Short longitudinal slot for the passage of the tongue a. The plate B is passed through the frame A, be-
tween the straps and the central bar of the said frame. The rear part of the plate B is slightly arched, and upon its side edges are formed rearwardly-projecting anges b1. The edges ot' the flanges b1 incline inward from points opposite the rear ends ofthe slot in the plate B to points opposite the forward end of said slot, Where they terminate with a square shoulder. The edges of the anges `b rest against the central cross-bar of the frame A, the said cross-bar, when the strap is not under strain, being at the forward or lower end of the inclines.
With this construction, when the strap is put under tension the tendency is to draw the Vframe A and plate B apart, and the etfect is to cause the central cross-bar of the frame A to slide up the inclines of the anges` b1, which presses the plates B down upon the end crossbars of the frame A, clamping the strap securely and holding it more drmly the greater the strain upon the straps may be.
Upon the side edges of the forward end of the plate B are formed lugs b2, to keep the ends ot' the straps in place and prevent them from pressing on the spring. Upon the forward end ofthe plate B is formed the hook C, and toit is attached the end of .the spring or snap c1, the other end of which rests against the point of the hook C.
Having thus described. my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- I The combination of the frame A, made with arched side bars and having a rigid tongue, a', attached to its centralcross-bar, the plate B, Slotted to receive the tongue a', and having inclined flanges formed upon its side edges, and the snap-hook o1 c2 formed upon the forward end oi' the said plate B, substantially as herein shown and described.
