TROUSERS.
Specification of Letters latent.
Patented June 18, 1918.
Application filed January 15, 1918. v Serial No. 211,937.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ISAAC L. MORRIS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of White Plains, in the county of Westchester and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Trousers, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention relates to wearing apparel, and its object is to provide new and improved trousers adapted to be comfortably worn without the use of suspenders or a separate belt.
In order to accomplish the desired result, use is made of a trousers body having a front provided with flies and having a back of unbroken continuity, the front and back having side portions, of which the side portions of the front overlie the side portions of the back thereby forming side slits, the front having openings at the flies and the front terminating at the sides in back straps connected with each other exteriorly at the back of the trousers, the sides of the back terminating in front straps passing through the said openings in the flies and extending exteriorly across the same, and a fastening device detachably connecting the ends of the said front straps with each other.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in
which similar characters of reference indicate correspondin parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a ront perspective view of the trouser as applied;
Fig. 2 is a rear perspective view of the same; and
Fig. 3 is an enlarged perspective view of the trousers.
The trousers in its general construction consists of a body 10 and legs 11, and the said body is provided at the sides with slits 12 thereby providing a front 13 and a back 14, of which the latter is of unbroken continuity. The said front 13 is provided with flies 15 and 16 adapted to be opened and closed in the usual manner.
The sides of the front 13 overlie the sides of the back 14 at the slits 12, and the sides ofthe front 13 terminate in back straps 20 and 21 extending across the back 14 and connected with each other at their ends by a buckle or other suitable fastening device 22 located at the median line of the back 14. The back straps 20 and 21 pass through guide loops 23, 24 attached exteriorly to the back at opposite sides of the median line of the back, as plainly indicated in Figs. 2 and 3. The sides of the back 14 terminate in front straps 30 and 31 which extend along the inner side of the body 10 to finally pass through openings 32, 33 formed in the flies 15 and 16. By the arrangement described, the front ends of the front straps 30 and 31 extend on the outside of the front 13, and the terminals of the front straps 30 and 31 are provided with a fastening device 34 de tachably connecting the terminals of the front straps with each other. By reference to Fig. 1 it will be noticed that the front ends of the straps 30 and 31 and the fastening device 34 extend exteriorly across the flies 15 and 16. i
From the foregoing it will be seen that the back straps 20 and 21 overlie the back 14 exteriorly, and thus form a belt for the back 14, while the front straps 30 and 31 form a belt for the front 13 of the trousers, thereby securely holding the trousers in position on the body of the wearer without the use of a suspender or a separate belt.
It is understood that by the use of the connecting device 22 the back straps 20 and 21 may be adjusted to suit the wearers body, and in a like manner the front straps 30 and 31 can be adjusted and detachably connected with each other by the fastening device 34 to snugly fit the body 10 of the trousers on the body of the wearer.
By constructing the trousers in the manner described the same size of trousers can be adjusted at the waist to suit different sized waists and hence a manufacturer need manufacture but two or three sizes to fit the various sizes of customers.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. As an article of manufacture, trousers provided at the front with flies and having a back of unbroken continuity, the front and back having side portions, of which the side portions of the front overlie the side portions of the back thereby forming side slits, the front having openings at the flies, the front terminating in back straps connected with each other at the back of the trousers, the sides of the back terminating in front straps passing through the said openings in the flies and extending exteriorly across the same, and a fastening device detachably connecting the ends of the said front with each other.
2. As an article of:n1anufacture,,trousers provided at the front with flies and having 5 a back of unbroken continuity, the front and back having side portions of which the side portions of the front overlie the-sidepor tions of the back thereby forming side slits, the front having openings at the flies, the
10 front terminating in back strapsaconnected Copiesot this patent may obtained for witheach other at the baekof the" trousers, the back having exterior guiding loops through; which .extendlthe said back straps, the sides of the back terminating in front -s-traps passing through the said openings in the flies and extending exteriorly across the-same, and a fastening device detachably connecting the eendsv of the said front straps with each other.
