SAMUEL BERKOWITZ, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR T0 HIMSELF AND BENJAMIN LUIBLINER, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
OVERALLS.
1,418,124. Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed March 9, 1921.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL BERKowrrz, a citizen of Russia, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Overalls, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in overalls and has for its object the provision of an improved overall which will be snug fitting, easy to adjust and comfortable. Another object of the invention is the provision of an overall which will be easily adjustable to differences in sizes of the wearer. A further object of this invention is the provision of a one-button overall, thus requiring the minimum of labor in fastening and unfastening. Further objects of this invention will be apparent from the specification and drawing annexed.
In the drawings, Fig. 1 shows a perspective view of the overall showing the overall buttoned.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the overall with one flap partly folded back showing the mechanism by which the belt is fastened.
Fig. 8 is a sectional View along the line 3--3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4: is a sectional view showing the belt and .fastening means considerably enlarged.
a represents the body of the overall which is of the usual design with the ordinary leg and arm members. 5 and Z) represent complementary flaps covering the breast of the wearer. At the angle a of the flap Z) a belt (I is attached having a buckle e and a hook 7", which hook f is attached to engage the button g. In the sideof the garment adjacent the flap b there is an opening it of a width sufficient to allow for the passage of the belt d. The garment is adjusted as follows:
The leg and arm portions are put on in the usual manner and the flap b is folded over the flap 6. The belt d is then adjusted to the proper length and the end thereof inserted through the hole h and fastened to the button 9.
It will be readily seen that by adjusting the belt d any slack or loose fitting in the body of the garment may be readily taken up by tightening the belt, so that an overallof this description can readily be worn by persons of different size within a suitable range, without discomfort.
Patented May 30, 1922.
Serial No. 450,899.'
It will be apparent that the belt, if desired, can be attached to the flap on the inside of the arment, so that the end of the belt is first lnserted through the opening h, and the belt will encircle the body of the wearer on the outside of the overall and the loop f in that case would be fastened to the button 9 on the outside of the overall instead of on the inside.
It will be noted that the flaps Z2 and Z) are of substantially triangular shape and that the bottom of each flap is on the median line of the garment and below the waist portion, so that the bottom of each of said flaps is substantially adjacent the crotch part of the garment.
It will also be noted that when the garment is closed, that the ends of the flaps are spaced from the sides of the garment. Since the belt can be externally adjusted by means of the buckle 6, after the wearer of the garment has adjusted the belt once, it is merely necessary to insert the hook f through the opening it and cause it to engage with the'button g. It is not necessary for the wearer to insert his hand into the garment to connect the hook 7 to the button 9 because if the flap 5 is properly adjusted before the garment is closed, it is simply necessary to insert the hook and connect it with the button.
What I claim is:
1. In an overall or the like, the combination of two flaps located at the front of the garment, the said flaps comprising substantially the entire front of the body portion of the garment above the belt line thereof and having their bottoms below the said belt line and ending adjacent the crotch portion of the garment, the ends of said flaps being spaced from the sides of the garment when the garment is in a closed condition, one of said flaps having a belt provided with a fastening device, the side of the garment adjacent the end of the other flap being providedwith a slit, the said other flap having complementary fastening means connected thereto, and adapted to be fastened to the first mentioned fastening means.
2. In an overall or the like, the combination of two flaps located at the front of the garment, the said flaps forming continuations of the neck portion of the garment and being of substantially triangular shape and having their bottoms below the belt line of the garment, the ends of said flaps being spaced from the sides of the garment when the garment is in a closed condition, one of said flaps having a belt provided with :1
rigid hook at its end, the side of the garment adjacent the end ofthe other flap other flap.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix'my signature.
SAMUEL BERKOWITZ.
