Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 14, 1918.
Application filed October 21, 1916. Serial No. 126,994.
To all whom 'it 'may concern.'
Be it known that I, ALBERT F. Mo'rsoH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oskaloosa, inthe county of Mahaska and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ledger-Sheet Pockets for Signature-Cards; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the` same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this speciiication.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in means forsimplifying the identification of signatures in banking business and consists essentially in the provision of a ledger sheet, used in connection with bookkeeping' machines, or the usual ledger not used with machines, and in connection with which means is provided either by treating a portion of the sheet lin such a way as to render it transparent to disclose a name or names or in the provision of a detachable pocket with a transparent wall whereby the names may be seen.
Heretofore in banking business, it has been the practice .in comparing signatures of checks with the signatures upon record to employ a card index, making it necessary, when the bookkeeper desires to compare a signature when enteringthe amount of the check upon the ledger, to refer to the card index and locate the particular signature desired and which is more or less complicated and requiring much time.
By the provision of the means embodying` the features of my invention, one or more signatures may be placed within the pockets and in readiness for display when it is desired to compare the same with signatures upon checks.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which I Figure l is a view in elevation showing the application of my invention to a ledger sheet.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view on line 2 2 of nig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a plan view of a ledger sheet showing a modified form.
Fig. 4 is a sectional view on line 4 4: of Fig. 3.
Fig. 5 is a view in elevation of the application of a modified form.
Fig. 6 is a sectional view on line 6-6 of Fig. 5.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawingsby letter, A designates a ledger sheet or sheet which may be of the usual form employed upon ledger printing machines or ordinary ledger sheets, and B is a transparent portion which may be of any size or shape and positioned, preferably, near the upper part of the sheet and through" which appear signatures with which it may be desired to compare the signatures of checks to be entered. In this form of device embodying the application of my invention, it will be noted that the upper portion of the ledger sheet is folded upon itself and has portions thereof treated in any suitable manner so as to make transparent outlook portions and behind which transparent outlook portions a card C is adapted to be placed and upon which appear signatures with which those upon checks are to be compared.
It will be noted that the upper portion of each ledger sheet is provided with two transparent outlook portions adapted to display cards upon opposite faces. By this arrangement, an even thickness will be given to the sheet in order that it may pass through the rollers of the bookkeeping sheet properly and which will permit the use of both sides of the sheet which is necessary.
In Fig. 3 of the drawings, I have shown a modification of my invention in which pockets, designated by letter D, are lfastened to the opposite faces of the sheet H and which is provided with a transparent portion E, these pockets being adapted to receive the identification card F. Said pockcts are fastened to the ledger sheet in any suitable manner as by an adhesive material..
In Fig. 5 of the drawings, I have shown still another modified form of my invention.
tened to one face of the ledger Sheet in the manner shown in Fig. 6 of the drawings, and which is folded upon itself L1-t apoint designated by letter L und has e transparent outlook portion G through which the names upon the card R may be displayed.
VVhet l claim to be new is A ledger sheet having at one edge thereof a pocket open at the end and formed by n portion bent upon itself and having a 10 transparent portion to display the signa ture upon a Card retained in said pocket.
In testimony Wheleot hereunto MEX my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
