IMPROVEMENT IN TEMPORARY BINDERS.
Specification forming partof Letters Patent No. 199,998, dated February 5, 1878; application filed December 5, 1877.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, JOHN W. SHOEMAKER and SAMUEL DODSWORTH, of the city and county of Leavenworth, and State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Paper File and Binder, of which the following is a specification Figure l is a top view of our improved paper file and binder. Fig. 2 is a cross-section of the same, taken through the line at as, Fig. 1.

. The object of this invention is to furnish an improved file for letters, bills, receipts, and other papers, which shall be so constructed that the papers may be conveniently bound or tied together without disarranging them, and which shall be simple in construction and convenient in use.
The invention will first be described in connection with the drawing, and then pointed out in the claim.
A represents a plate of tin or other suitable sheet metal, or wood material, of any desired size. The plate A is bent or shaped at right angles, to form a gage, a, to even the edges of the papers against before pressing them down upon the needles.
The upper part a of the flange or gage a may be bent over at right angles, so as to be parallel with the plate A, if desired. The lower middle part of the gage a may be cut out, left in line with the plate A, and have a hole cut through it, to form a lug or loop to receive the nail upon which it is hung.
To the plate A, at a suitable distance from each other and from the gage a are attached two small tubes, B, in the open ends of which are inserted needles 0, the shoulders of the heads of which rest upon the upper ends of the said tubes B. I
Through the heads of the needles 0 are formed eyes, to receive the cord or tape D, with which the papers are to be bound or tied, so that the said cord may be carried through the papers by the operation of placing the papers on the file.
The papers may be tied together or bound before removing them from the file, or after they have been removed from the tubes B, as may be desired.
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination, in a temporary binder, with the fixed vertical tubes B, that hold the papers, of the needles 0, having transverselyapertured conical heads, whose shoulders rest on the top of said tubes, while the shanks of said needles extend down into the tubes, as shown and described.
