TOBACCO-RECEPTACLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 14, 1918.
Application filed December 19, 1916. Serial No. 137,841.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, TAKUJI HOSOGAI, a subject of the Emperor of Japan, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented a new and useful Tobacco-Receptacle, of which the following is the specification.
This invention relates to a tobacco receptacle, and the primary object of the invention is to provide a receptacle, having a space at one end to receive matches.
Other object and advantages will appear in the subjoined detail descr1ption:
The accompanying drawings illustrate the invention:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the can, showing the cover in open position.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the match holding member and pipe cleaner.
Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the match holding member and pipe cleaner.
Fig. 4 is a cross sectional view of the cover.
Fig. 5 is a fragmentary view of the can showing cover closed.
1 designates the body of the can or receptacle which is open at both ends. A flanged lid or cover 2 is hinged to one end of the can and adapted to telescope the can to close it at said end. A similar flanged lid or cover 3 is hinged to the other end of the can and closes it at said end. Catch members 4 are formed on the lid 3 and cooperate with catch members 5 on'the body 1 to hold the lid in closed position.
A false bottom or partition 6 is mounted in the body near the end to which is hinged the lid 3 and divides the body into two compartments 14 and 15, the one 15 for matches and the other for tobacco.
Matches 7 arev mounted in the compart ment 15 and lie one upon the other therein. The compartment 14 is filled with tobacco, not shown. An opening 8 is formed in the bottom 6 and mounted in this opening is a member 9. This member has a straight stem portion and at its upper end has a curved handle and match engaging portion 10,
which holds the matches in place by overlyiBng alnd engaging them as shown at 11 m The lid 3 is roughened at 12 to permit of the scratching of the matches thereon.
The body 1 is cut away at 13 to permit of the removal of matches readily, one at a time.
This invention it will be seen relates to tobacco receptacle of the pocket type and will prove convenient to smokers in that it provldes a pipe cleaner and matches along with the tobacco. The pipe cleaner serves a double function in that it holds the matches in place.
What I claim is 1. A can body having its ends open, a artition in said body dividing the body mto two compartments, one being larger than the other and adapted to receive tobacco,
said small compartment to hold matches, said partition having an opening therein, a pipe cleaning member extendin through the opening, and a handle on sa1d member lying in the match compartment and engaging and holding the matches in place, and lids for closing said open ends.
2. In combination, a can having a tobacco compartment and a match holding compartment, a partition dividing the compartments and having an opening therethrough and a pipe cleaner removably housed within the can and extending through the opening, said cleaner having one extremity disposed for engagement with matches in the compartment therefor to hold such matches within the compartment.
Signed at LosAngeles, California, this 11th day of December, 1916.
