Specification of Letters Patent. Patented July 23, 1912.
Application filed March 2, 1912. Serial No. 681,107.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ERNESTO FUoHs, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Guadalajara, inthe State of J alisco and Republic of Mexico, have invented new and useful Improvements in Double-Com-.
said body having a partition which coacts with the partition in the body to form two separated, compartments, and with springoperated closures, having a common hinged mounting on the center of the cap and provided with means for closing the openings in the cap, as hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing:Figure 1 is a vertical central sectional view of a double compartment substance holder, constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same, show ing one of the closures open. Fig. 3 is a plan of the same. Fig. 4 is a detail sectional view, showing the modified form of my inventlon.
My improved double compartment substance holder comprises a vessel or body 1, which is here shown as of slightly upward tapered form, and provided with a centrally disposed integral partition wall, 2 which divides the vessel or body into a pair of separated chambers or receptacles 3 and4.
In the form. of my invention shown in Figs. 1,2 and 3,th'e vessel 1 is formed, near its upper open end, with a bead or flange 5, exteriorly disposed, and with a reduced, tubular upper end 6. A. stud 7, which is radially arranged, projects from the outer side of the said reduced tubular upper portion or end -of the vessel. I also provide a cap 8 which comprises a tubular portion 9 adapted to fit on the reduced tubular upper end of the-vessel, and to bear againstthe shoulder formed by the bead or flange 5, the top of the cap being formed by a pair of upwardly converging angularly related inclined portions 10 each of which is provided witha suitable number of openings 11. At the apex of the cap, at opposite sides thereogt; are a pair of medially disposed upwardly projecting lugs 12. A rod 13 connects the said lugs and extends across the cap, above the apex thereof. The cap is provided in its cylindrical portion 8 with a bayonet slot 14 adapted for engagement with the stud 7 so that the cap may be detachably secured on the upper end of the vessel or body 1. as will be understood. The cap is provi ed on its inner side with a centrally disposed depending wall or partition 15 which engages the upper edge of and is in line with the partition or wall 2 of the vessel 1. On the inclined portions 10 of the cap are closures 16 each of which is provided with an integral substantiallyU- shaped lever arm 17 These lever arms of the closures are angularly related and the arm of one of the closuresis shorter than and extends through the arm of the other as is clearly indicated in Fig. 3. The arms of the closures are both pivoted on the rod 2 so that the latter forms the commonpivot. or pintle for bothof the closures and the said closures are provided on their'under sides with tapered blocks or projections 18 which pass through and close the openings in the ;top.of the cap when the closures are inclosed position. These closures are normally held inclosed, position by means. of coiled springs 20 which are placed on the rod 12.
It will be understood from the foregoing description that by depressing the lever arm of either one of the closures the said closure may be openedso as to uncover the openings in that side of the cap and, hence, permit material, salt, pepper or other .material, as the case may be, to be shaken or poured out of one compartment'of the vessel and that as soon as the pressure of the finger is removed from the said lever arm, the said closure will be closed by the action of its spring and prevent any further escape of the material or substance. It will also be understood that the stud and bayonet slot connection enables the cap to be readily removed from the vessel to permit the latter to be replenished or cleansed.
In the modified form of my invention, shown in Fig. 4, the upper portion of thebody 1 of the vessel is formed with screw threads 21 exteriorly arranged, and the cap 22 is formed with a threaded portion 23 to engage the threaded upper end of the vessel, and, hence, permit the cap to be detachably secured to the vessel. The openings in"the cap and the plugs or projections of the closures maybe of any suitable number and of any suitable size, according to the nature of the" materialor materials designed to be held by the double compartment holder.
ing a partition to coact with that of the vessel and also having a pair of oppositely inclined covering portions each provided with an opening, one or more, the said cap being further provided at its apex 'at' opposite sides, with a pair of upwardly extending ears, a rod' connecting the said ears, 9; pair of closures pivotally mounted on the said rod, the said closures being respectively adapted to operate on the respective inclined portions of the cap and being provided on their under sides with stopper projections toenter and close the said openings of said inclined portions of the cap, each of the said closures having a substantially U- shaped arm forming a lever, and springs on the said rod and acting to normally hold'the said closures in closed position on the cap.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ERNESTO FUCHS.
Witnesses E. R. Downs, OLIVER FILTEAU.
