Description

I. M. FOSTER COMBINATION CASE Jan. 17, 1928.
Filed Feb. 20. 1926 INVENTOR ATTORN Y Patented Jan. 17, 1928.
UNITED STATES INEZ MERCY FOSTER,
OF EAST SIMLA, INDIA.
COMBINATION CASE.
Application filed February 20, 1926, Serial No This invention relates to a case for holding cifgarettes and the like, the general object the invention being to provide a case having a pluralityof compartments therein,
so that matches and other articles can be carried in the case, besides the cigarettes or cigars.
A further object of the invention is to provide means whereby the matches can be m moved to a position where one or more of the matches can be easily removed.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several *5 parts, to be hereinafter fully described, il-
lustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, ref- 2 erence will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters-denote like or correspondin parts throughout the several views, an in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the easing, showing the same in open position.
igure 2 is a similar view, but showing the parts in another position.
Figure 3 is a view showing a modification.
Figure 4 is a longitudinal sectional view.
Figure 5 is a view of the match container.
Figure 6 is a view of the cleaner for the cigarette holder.
As shown in these views, the device comprises the central part 1 and the cover parts an 2 and 3 which are hingedly connected with the central part and are provided with suitable latch means 4 for holding them in closed position. The cover part 2 is formed with a pair of eyes 5 so that a strap 6 of an elastic or the like can be stretched across the concaved portion of the cover to hold the cigarettes or cigars in place. The cover part 3 has a mirror 7 thereon, and one face of the central part 1 is formed with a pocket 8 to receive a comb 9, the comb being held in the pocket by a strip 10 of elastic or the like which covers the lower end of the pockat. The other face of the central part 1 is divided into two parts by a partition 11, one
portion being arranged to contain cigarettes or cigars which are held in place by the band 12 and the other part is arranged to contain matches. These matches are held in a holder 13 which is pivoted to the partition and to the outer wall of the part 1 by the pin 14, with the lower end of the holder .saso2, and in Great Britain February 2a, 1925.
beveled, as at 15, so that it can be rocked on its pivots to a position, such as shown in dotted lines in Figure 4, to permit the matches to be removed from the holder. A spring 16 may be secured to the holder to press the same to a tilted position as soon as the case is opened or this spring may be omitted and the holder pressed upon by the finger to tilt it. The holder is provided with a match striking surface 17 and is divided by the partitions 18 into a plurality of compartments for holding the'matches.
Figure 3 shows the holder .13 of stepped formation and as arranged in a chamber 19 which is formed by the U-shaped partition 20. This holderis arranged for usewith short matches, and the top of the chamber will prevent the matches from falling out if the case is inverted. This figure also shows a metal piece 21 extending over a portion of the elastic hand against which the holder will press when the case. is closed, so that the holder will not damage cigarettes. This figure also shows a spring clip 22 for holding a cigarette holder 23 and a holder 24 for holding a cleaner 25 for the holder 23.
From the foregoing, it will be seen that I have provided an attractive and useful article for holding cigarettes or cigars and various other artlcles, including a mirror and matches. The articles are readily accessible, and the case presents an attractive appearance.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is A casing of the class described including a central part and cover parts, one upon each side of the said central part, the three parts being hingedly connected at one side, the said central part having a longitudinal comb receiving pocket along its inner edge,
a longitudinal partition in the side of the central part opposite to that having the comb pocket, said partition dividing the side into two compartments, a match holder formed with partitions dividing it into chambers, the lower portion of the match holder being beveled at one side, the said holder being pivoted at the obtuse angle formed by the straight and beveled portion the said tilt movement givin easy acof one side, and a spring attached to the cessto the ma t mes carried by the holder and bolder and engaging the central part for working automatically with the opening of 1 normally forcing the upper end of said the caslng.
5 holder outwardly away from the central part In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
until sto ped by the contact of the central part wit the beveled portion of the holder, INEZ MERCY FOSTER.
