JOSEPH D. (Bi-III'JLAN,A OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND, ASSIGNOR TO WARWICK STERLING COMPANY, OF PROVIDENCE, .RI-IODE ISL-AND, A CORPORATION O RHODE ISLAND.
To all whom it may concern: v y
Be it known that I, J OSE-PH D. GILLAN, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigarette-Cases, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in cases for carrying cigarettes or other similar articles and has for its object to provide an improved form of casing having a carrier, frame or holder mounted to fold between the covers of the casing for receiving the contents, the carrier being adapted to be positioned between the edges of the partially opened covers to place the contents in position for easy access.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, as, will be more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the carrier as swung outward and set between the partially opened covers to place the contents in position for easy access. Fig. 2- is a perspective View of the casing in open position, one of the members of the carrier being folded into one of the covers and the other member of the carrier thrown back into po-- sition to receive the cigarettes between them. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the carrier as loaded and folded into one of the concaved covers. Fig. 4 is a sectional edge view showing the casing covers hinged together and in closed position also showing the carrier members hinged together and one of the members hinged to one of the casing covers. Fig. 5 is an enlarged view showing the spring at the hinge of the carrier members which exerts a slight pressure on one of said members to hold the cigarettes between them.
Referring to the drawings z-my improved cigarette casing may be made of any suitable material, but is preferably constructed of metal and comprises two lids 10 and 1-1 preferably of a concavo-conveX shape hinged together at 12 on one edge, and provided on its opposite edge with a spring catch 13 adapted to lock the lids in closed position.
A feature of my invention is the provision of what I term a carrier or holder, which is v specication offerte1-sratent- CIGARETTE-CASE.
constructed of two members 14 and 15 hinged together at 16, the hinge being preferably provided with a spring 17 (see Figs. 2 and 5) whereby a slight pressure is eX-y erted on member 15 to hold'it normally in closed position to better retain the contents between them. The member 14 is hinged at may be closed over the whole and the case' stowed away in the pocket of the user, the same as any case of this character, but in some instances it is desired to open and place the case on a table to bring the cigarettes in position for easy access. To do this, it is only necessary to place the lid 10 downward to form a base, open the lid 11 and swing the carrier on its hinge 18 outward from the upper lid 11 so that its free edge will rest against that of the base lid, and in engagement with the retaining block 19. In this position the two lids are held open and the whole contents of the case is brought out and forward into plain sight and within convenient reach of the users.
In order to close thecase it is only necessary to turn the case over, swing the carrier back away from the retaining block 19 and close and latch the covers.
The device is very practical in construction and by its use the whole contents of the casing may be readily placed in position for inspection and easy access.
I claim: Y
1. A cigarette case comprising a receptacle formed of two lids hinged together at one edge, a holder located within the inclosure and formed of two members hinged together at one edge, the hinge of the holder being adjacent the hinge of the receptacle, the edge of one holder member opposite the Ahinge of the holder, being hinged to the corresponding edge of one of said lids.
2. A cigarette case comprising a receptacle formed of two lids hinged together at one edge, a holder located within the iny Patented Mar. '7, 1916. i
