COMBINED BILL-HOLDER AND COIN-PURSE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 27, 1910.
Application filed December 18, 1909. Serial No; 533,971.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DANIEL O. SNYDER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Muncy, in the county of Lycoming and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Bill-Holders and Coin-Purses, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
My invention relates especially to devices employed for carrying money Within the pocket, and has for its object the provision of a simple combined bill-holder and coin purse wherein means are provided for retaining the bills in a flat condition, separate from the coin.
To attain the desired end, my invention consists in certain novel and useful combinations or arrangements of parts, and peculiarities of construction and operation, all of which will be hereinafter first duly described, and then pointed out in the claims.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is a plan view of a device embodying my invention, the billholder being opened. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the device with the parts folded together. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal, sectional view at line aa of Fig. 1. Fig. 4c is an enlarged detail view of one end of the device, as in Fig. 3, showing the spring bill clip as raised.
Similar numerals of reference, wherever they occur, indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
1 and 2 is the back or outside portion of the device, constituting the coin-holder, made of leather, or any other approved material which may be easily folded. 3 is a metal rim secured to the turned over edge of the parts 1, and 4c is a similar rim secured to the part 2, the two portions of the rim being hinged together at 5. The space inclosed by the rim 3 has a back piece 6 of leather, or the equivalent, which forms the fixed top of the coin-holder 1, and said space also constitutes one half of the bill-holder. Carried by the pintle of the hinge 5 is a movable frame 7 closed by a piece of leather 8.
9 are spring clips movably held at the ends of the parts 3 and 7, and adapted to hold bills securely and smoothly in place within the bill-holder. 10 is a clasp for holding the device in a closed condition.
In use, when it is desired to place coin in the holder, or remove it therefrom, the part 7 is raised, and when the purse is folded, as in Fig. 2, the coin will be retained against possibility of escape. To place bills within the holder, the clips are raised, the bills smoothed out over the parts 6 and 8, and
then the clips are dropped to the positions shown in Figs. 1 and 3 of the drawing, firmly holding the bills in place, while permitting easy removal thereof. When the parts are folded together, the frame 7 passes into the frame 3 around the part 6.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new therein, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A combined bill-holder and coin purse, in which is comprised a folder for bills hinged at its center, spring mechanism for securing bills at each extremity within the folder, and a coin receptacle secured to the rear of the folder, substantially as shown and described.
2. A device of the character herein specified in which is comprised a hinged frame carrying a coin holder, 2. bill holder at the front of the coin holder one part whereof is hinged to the pintle 5 of the hinged frame, a rim surrounding the bill holder the movable portion of'the bill holder being arranged to fold therein, and spring means for securing bills at each eXtremity,Within the bill holder.
In testimony whereof I hereto aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
DANIEL O. SNYDER.
