Specification of Letters ?atent.
Patented Feb. 26, Mlle.
' Application filed July 18, 1917. Serial No. 181,373.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SPENCER BIcKnn'roN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Honolulu, Territory of Hawaii, have invented new and useful Improvements in Tag- Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improved tag holder for use on a suit case or the like to hold a tag or card, the object of the invention being to provide an improved device of this character which is extremely cheap and simple, which may be readily attached to a suit case or the like and by means of which a card or tag may be secured to the suit case to enable the latter to be readily identified and to establish the ownership thereof.
The invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of de vices hereinafter described andclaimed.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure l is a front elevation of a card or tag holder constructed in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the same attached to a wall of a suit case and showing the back of the holder open, in full lines, and the back being also shown in closed position in dotted lines.
in the embodiment of my invention I provide a face plate 1 which is here shown as of oblong rectangular form with rounded corners 2. The plate has an opening 3 through which a card or tag may be exposed and the plate is provided on the rear side with a flange 1- which extends rearwardly therefrom and around the opening 3 and at a suitable distance from the sides of the opening.
The plate is attached to the front side of a wall 5 of a suit case or the like, by means of rivets or other suitable fastening devices 6. The wall has an opening 7 through which the flange 4 extends, the said flange extending around and bearing against the sides of said opening.
A back 8 is pivotally connected, as at 9, at its lower side to the lower side of the flange 4- and is adapted to close against said flange, the upper side of the flange being provided with a suitable fastening snap to engage the upper side of the back and to hold the latter in closed position. Near the ends of the back, on the front side thereof, are presser springs 11 which are arcuate in form, are arranged transversely with respect to the back and are each secured at one end to the back by means of a rivet or other suitable fastening device 12.
The card, tag or the like, indicated at A may contain the name, and address of the owner of the suit case or any suitable inscription, is placed within the sides of the flange l and against the face plate 1 and hence is exposed through the opening 3. The back 8 is then closed and fastened, the presser springs 11 pressing against the ends of the card and holding the latter firmly against the face plate. The holder may be readily opened when desired to facilitate the removal of the card or tag and the substitution of another therefor.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
In combination, a wall having an opening, and a tag holder comprising a face plate bearing on the wall and having an opening coincident with but of less dimensions than the wall opening, a flange on the rear side of the face plate extending around the sides of the wall opening, and
adapted to receive a tag, one side of the flange being provided with a snap catch arranged on the rear side of the wall, back hinged to the opposite side of the flange and adapted to close therein and to engage the snap catch, and a presser spring on the front side of the back and adapted to bear against and hold the tag in place.
In testimony whereof I ailix my signature.
SPENCER BICKERTON.
