MUSIC HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED JUNE 13. 191:. 11a
Patented June 18, 19181.,
SIDNEY H. RING, OF GLATSKANIE, OREGON.
MUSIC-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June to, this.
Application filed June 13, 1917. Serial No. 174,558.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, SIDNEY H. RING, a citizen of the United States, residin in Clatskani'e, county of Columbia, and btate of Oregon, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in MusicH0lders, of whichthe following is a specification.
My invention relates to music holders, and more particularly to a combination sheet music holder and case, into which a number of sheets of music can be placed in a flat condition and held for protection, and also for use,my holder being adapted to open up in a flat manner and to be placed upon a piano rack, or other music support with the music in position for use.
In order to clearly explain my invention l[ have illustrated one practical embodiment thereof in the accompanying sheet of drawings, which I will now describe.
Figure 1 is an open view of a music holder embodying my invention;
Fig. 2 is a lower end view thereof; and
Fig. 3 is a perspective view thereof, in closed form.
Referring now in detail to the drawings, my invention comprises two box-like cover members 1 and 2, hinged at their adjacent sides to a back 3, by means of double hinges 4-4:, said hinges being provided with holding prongs 55, on which sheets of music 6, can be placed, as indicated. Mounted near each of said hinges 4-4, on the cover 1, is a punch 7, spaced at the right distance so that when a sheet of paper is inserted therein and said punches are ressed, holes at the right distance apart will be punched in the sheet music, whereupon said music can be placed upon said holding prongs 55.
The covers 1 and 2 are provided along the outer and top sides with flange-like members 11 and 2 adapted to meet edgewise when said cover members 1 and 2 are closed together, as shown in Fig. 3. On their lower sides said cover members are provided with music supporting ledges 8 and 9, adapted to overlap each other, as shown in Fig. 3, when the music holder is closed. A latch spring 10 may be provided on the flange member 1 and adapted to engage with a locking stud 11, on the flange member 2, when the cover members are closed together. A handle 12, is provided on the back 3, whereby said case can be carried, thus providing a convenient means for carrying said music holder.
While I have illustrated one practical embodiment of my invention, slight changes can be made therein without departing from the spirit thereof, and I do not, therefore, limit the invention to the exact details here shown, except as I may be limited by the hereto appended claims.
I claim:
1. A combination music holder comprising two box-like cover members, means hinging the same together, whereby they can be closed one upon the other in box-like form, arched holding prongs spaced apart at the hinged joint to receive the music, punching devices arranged opposite each of said prongs on one of said cover members, whereby to punch holes in the music at a space apart corresponding to the space between said prongs, said cover members being provided on their lower edges with projecting ledge members adapted to act as supports for the lower end of music placed therein, substantially as described.
2. A combination music holder and rack comprising two cover members of box-like form having meeting flange-like members around their inner faces at their upper and outer edges, a back member to the opposite edges of which said cover members are respectively hinged, whereby to be opened out fiatwise into substantially the same plane of said back member, arched holding prongs mounted on said back member between said cover members and adapted to receive sheet music, whereby the same can be turned from one cover member to the other, said cover members having overlapping projecting ledge members 'on their lower ends adapted to act as supports for the lower ends of sheet music placed on said prongs when said holder is open substantially as described.
3. A combination music holder and rack comprising two cover members of box-like form, a back member to the opposite edges of which said cover members are respectively hinged, whereby to be opened out flatwise into substantially the same plane of said back member, arched holding prongs mounted on said back member between said cover members and adapted to receive sheet music, whereby the same can be turned from one cover member to the other, said cover members having projecting ledge members on their lower ends adapted to act as supports for the lower ends of sheet music placed on said prongs, and a hole punching device mounted on one of said cover members opposite each of sald holdlng prongs and at the same space apart," and adapted for punching holes through sheet music to be placed in said. holder, substantially as described.
4. A. combination music holder and rackcomprising tWo cover members provided at their outer and top sides with flange-like members, a back. member to the opposite ledges oi which said cover members are hingedly attached and adapted to open-out fiatwise into substantially the sameplane,
holdingprongs mounted on said back memberat a space apart and adapted, to have sheet music mounted thereupon, punching devices mounted on one of said cover members opposite said prong members and at the same space apart and adapted for punch- .ing holes through music sheets to receive said prongs, saidcover members being provided at their lower edges with projecting music supporting ledges, adapted to overlap each other when said cover members are closed together in box-like form, the flangelike members and the music supporting Copies of this patentsmay be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents,
