WITNESSES l/VVE/VTO/i Bernard Slember A TTOR/VEYS coLummA PLANOGRAFH CO..WA5HINGTON. n. :4
BERNARD STEMBER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
MEMORANDUM-BOOK.
' Application filed February 12, 1915.
1 b all whom it may concern Be it known that I, BERNARD STEMBER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Memorandum-Book, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention relates to loose-leaved books and its object is to provide a new and improved memorandum book arranged to permit of placing a desired number of loose leaves or a pad in position between the two covers or removing any one or all of the leaves from between the covers to allow convenient turning over of the leaves in order to reach any particular one for reference or for writing additional memoranda thereon.
A further object is to provide a memorandum book which is exceedingly compact for conveniently carrying it in a pocket.
In order to produce the desired result use is made of flexible covers connected with each other by a flexible back and curved studs secured. to the inner face of one cover and adapted to engage with their free ends sockets in the inner face of the same cover.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a plan view of the memorandum book with the parts in open position; Fig. 2 is an edge view of the same; Fig. 3 is a similar view of the same, with. the parts in closed position and a portion shown in section; and Fig. t is a similar view with the top cover bent back and the studs disengaged from the sockets.
The covers A and B are connected with each other by a back C and the said covers and the back are preferably made from a single piece of leather or other flexible material. On the inner face of the cover A are arranged a pair of curved studs D secured at one end by suitable fastening devices E to the cover A at a point somewhat remote from the back 0. The free ends of the studs D terminate in heads D adapted to engage sockets F secured on the cover A. at points adjacent the flexible back C.
The loose leaves G are provided with apertures G through which pass the studs Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 1?, 1915.
Serial No. 7,672.
D so as to hold the said loose leaves in position on the studs and to permit of folding the loose leaves over onto the cover B whenever it is desired to reach any particular one leaf for reference or for placing additional memoranda thereon. lVhen it is desired to place the leaves G in position on the studs D, the user bends back the upper portion of the cover A to disengage the heads D from the sockets F, as shown in Fig. i. The loose leaves can now readily be engaged with the studs D by passing the latter through the apertures G. lNhen the desired number of leaves G liave been placed in position on the studs D then the upper end of the cover A is swung forward and the heads D are reengaged with the sockets F. The cover B can now be swung over onto the uppermost leaf G to close the memorandum book, as indicated in Fig. 3.
It is understood that the studs D are curved to extend lengthwise of the covers, and both studs D are on the same cover A it is evident that the other cover B can be readily swung into closed position with the studs D taking up comparatively little room, that is, without unduly increasing the thickness of the memorandum book.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
The combination with a pair of covers connected with each other by a back, the said covers and back being made of a single piece of flexible material, of a pair of curved studs, fastening devices held on one of the covers at a point remote from the back, each of the studs having one end secured to the corresponding fastening device, and having its other end terminating in a head, and
sockets secured to the same cover adjacent the said back and in longitudinal alinement with the fastening devices, each of the sockets being adapted to be engaged by the head of the corresponding stud, the other cover extending over the said studs at the time this cover is in closed position.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
BERNARD STEMBER.
