Description

E. M. GILDEMEISTER.
BROOM HOLDER.
APPLICATION rum) JULY 26,1907.
Patented Jan. 5, 1909.
ETTA MAUDE GILDEMEISTER, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
BROOM-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 5, 1909.
Application filed July 26, 1907. Serial No. 385,634.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ETTA MAUDE GILBE- MEISTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Broom-Holders, of which the following is a description.
My invention belon s to that class of devices known as broom elders and has for its objects, the production of a sim le, convenient, and attractive device of t e kind described.
To this end my invention consists in the novel arrangement, construction, and combination of parts herein shown and described and more particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings wherein like reference characters indicate like or corresponding parts, Figure l is a perspective View of my preferred form of device. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a part thereof. Fig. 3 is a front View of the device opened, a broom or the like in position. Fig. 4 is a vertical sectional view taken on line 4-4 of Fig. 5. Fig. 5 is a horizontal view taken on line 55 of Fig. 4, and Fig. 6 is a partial longitudinal sectional view of the preferred form of handle on the part shown in Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings, my preferred form of device consists of a back member 1 and a door 2 therefor which are pivotally secured together at 3 as shown, and a removable cooperating top or member 4 formed substantially as shown. As is shown in the drawin s the back part 1 and door 2 are made to substantially conform to the contour of a broom, and the parts made of about the thickness of the broom to be held.
In the bottom of the broom holder is provided an opening 6 arranged to permit the handle 7 of the broom to pass through. The back and door, parts 1 and 2, may be secured together in any suitable or preferred manner, hinges 3 being shown, and any suitable catch 13-13 or its equivalent may be employed to secure or look the parts in their closed position.
The part 4, or holder top is preferably made removable from the back and door, parts 1 and 2, and in the form of a dust-pan. When the broom is placed in the holder, the top 4 or dustan is placed over the end of the same, as s own in Fig. 3. In this manner, top 4 or the dust-pan covers the broom when supported and retained by the parts 1 and 2 and so substantially forms a removable top for the same. The drawings show a cover 8 on the door, part 2, but this is unnecessary and may be omitted if desired, since the removable part 4 forms a top for the holder.
11 my preferred construction, a suitable handle 5 is pivotally secured to the removable top 4 and walls arranged on three sides thereof as shown. Referring to Fig. 6, the preferred manner of securing the handle to the pan or top 4, is to secure a lug 9 on the top 4 and pivotally secure the handle 5 thereto with a pin 10, or its equivalent for the purpose, so that the pan will be rigidly supported by the handle 5 when the parts are in the position as shown in this figure. This is accomplished by having the handle 5 or a spring 11 secured thereto, butt against the lug 9 as at point 12. Fig. 3 shows the position of the handle when the top is placed in the back and door parts 1 and 2, and the broom in position. An eye 14 or its equivalent for the purpose is employed for securing the device in the desired location.
It is obvious that various other slight and immaterial modifications may be made in the form or construction as shown, within the scope of the a pended claims without departing from t e s irit of my invention; hence I do not wis to be understood as limiting myself to the exact design and form shown.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is,
1. In a broom-holder of the kind described and in combination, a back member and a door member therefor, said members corresponding substantially in contour to the broom to be held, and pivotally secured together at one of the sides thereof, and a removable top for said members adapted to be positioned therein.
2. In a broom-holder of the kind described and in combination, a back member and a door member therefor corresponding in contour therewith and pivotally secured thereto at one of the sides thereof, and a removable top for said members arranged to substantially cover a broom when retained therein, said top provided with. an extending wall on one of the edges thereof.
3. A broom-holder of the kind described, comprising a back member and a door member therefor corresponding in contour there- In testimony whereof, I have hereunto with and pivotally secured thereto at one signed my name in the presence of tWo subof the sides thereof, and a removable top for scribing Witnesses.
said members adapted to be positioned ETTA MAUDE GILDEMEISTER.
therein, said top provided With an extended Witnesses: wall on one edge thereof and a handle iv- BURTON E. BENNETT, otally secured thereto on the opposite e ge. 1 GEORGE H. CLEMENTsoN.
