H. GREASON.
COVER FOR WASHTUBS.
APYLIGATION FILED s211127, 1911.

ITE S ATES P zr rien COVER FOR WASHTUBS.
` Appneation ined september 27, 1911.
To all 'whom it may concern:
i Be it known that I, HERBERT GREAsoN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Ridgewood, inthe county of' Bergen and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Cover Ifor lVashtubs, of which the following is a full, clear, and eXact description.
The object of the'invention is to provide a new and improved sheet metal cover for wash tubs and the like, which is exceedingly strong and durable and 'not liable to bend or warp or injure the tub especially if the latter is made of soap stone or slate.
' For the purpose mentioned,`theI cover is formed of a top sheet provided with depending doubled-up flanges, a reinforcing sheet on the under side of the top sheet, and hav- 4ing depending flanges extending between the members of the said doubled-up flanges, andreinforcing corner pieces attached to the said doubled-up flanges.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure l is a sectional front .elevation of the cover in -position on the wash tub, one of the sections of the cover being open; Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the same on the line' 2-2 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is an enlarged plan view of the blank for forming the reinforcing .corner pieces; and Fig. 4 is perspective view of one of the reinforcing corner pieces. l
lAs illustrated in ig. 1, the wash tub A is provided with a transverse partition A, to form two compartments A2 and A", adapted to be closed at the top by covers C and C connected at the rear by pivots or hinges D with a back rail E, so as to permit of swinging the covers into an open or a closed position. The covers C and C as wel-l as the back rail E are preferably made of sheet metal, and each of the covers C, C is preferably formed of a top sheet C2 and a bottom sheet C3, the top sheet C2 being provided at its ends and sides with depending doubled-up flanges C4, between the mem- A bers of which extend flanges C5 depending from the bottomsheet C3, as will be readily understood by reference to Figs. 1 and 2.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 9, 1915.
Serial No. 651,562. c i
The bottom sheet C3 is further provided with stamped or corrugated portions C6 to reinforce the cover and thus render the same eX- ceedingly strong and durable, and eliminatin0 all danger of bending or warping.
he forward corners of each of the covers are reinforced by reinforcing corner pieces G, soldered or otherwise fastened to the inner member of the doubled-up flange C4 and the underside of the bottom sheet C3. The corner pieces 'G are preferably flush with the lower edges of the doubled-up flanges C4, and each is provided with a pin H on which is fastened a cushion I, of rubber or other material, and adapted to rest on the top of the front wall of the tub A, as plainly indicated in FigfQ. Thus when a cover is swung shut the cushion I engages the tub A and hence the tub is not liable to be injured especially when the cover is allowed to accidentally swing shut without its fall serve to carry the cushions I.
The back rail E is preferably provided with an upwardly-extending flange E adapted to abut against the wall or other support in the rear of the wash tub A.
. Having thus described my invention, I.
claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
A rectangular metallic cover for receptacles having a downwardly extending marginal flange at each side, reinforcing corner pieces tting and secured in the corners of the coversaid corner pieces being each formed of a piece of sheet metal bent to form two overlying horizontal members and two vertical members extending from adja cent sides and at riglit'angles to the horizontal members, pins projecting from the horizontal members, and cushions on said ms. p In testimony whereof I have'signed my name tothis specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
HERBERT GREASON. Witnesses:
CHARLES S. KOHLER, HAROLD M. SILVERMAN'.
