SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 404,984, dated June 11, 1889.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ALBERT G. ROBINSON, of the city of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a. new and useful Improvement in WVash-Tubs, of which the following is a specification.

My improvement is designed for so-called wash-tubs, and particularly for that class of stationary wash-tubs in which the tub portion is composed of composite material, such as concrete, cement, or artificial stone.

I will describe in detail a Wash-tub embodying my improvement, and afterward point out its novel features in a claim.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a wash-tub embodying my improvement. Fig. 2 is avertical section thereof, taken on the line a; to, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a view in perspective of a securing device which I may employ.

Similar letters of reference designate corresponding parts in all the figures.

A designates the tub proper. As shown, it is double. The tub is to be erected upon suitable supports in a kitchen or wash-house.

B designates a top frame for the tub. This frame will ordinarily be composed of wood. It is secured upon the top of the tub A, and is provided with suitable openings giving admission to the interior of the tub, which openings are normally covered, as shown, by covers O, secured by hinges to the rear portion of the top frame B.

Difficulty has been experienced in securing the wooden top frame to the tub A when the latter is composed of composite material. To accomplish this I provide the front edge of the top frame B with a downwardly and angularly extending rib or flanged portion 1). The front face of tubs of the character to which my improvement applies has also a downwardly and inwardly angular extension.

The angularly-extendin g portion 1) on the top frame, when the latter is in position upon the tub, embraces the upper portion of the front face, and its angle of extension is substantially the same as that of the front face. When the portion 6 is drawn back against the front face and held in such position, the top frame cannot be lifted off from the tub. In order to maintain the top frame in such position, I employ securing devices D, by which the rear side of the top frame is secured to the tub. In the example of myimprovement shown such securing devices are made of T- shaped pieces of metal, the lower legs of which are provided with inwardly-extending pins or projections d. The upper portions, or b, of the devices are provided with screw-holes, through which screws may be passed in order to secure the securing devices to the top frame B. The pins or projections d extend into suitably-formed apertures in the rear side of the tub A, as shown more clearly in Fig. 2.

By the means described the top frame is firmly secured upon the tub and cannot be removed therefrom unless the securing device be detached from the top frame B.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

The combination, with a wash-tub having an inclined or angularly-extending front face, of a detachable frame arranged upon the top of said tub and provided upon its "front edge with a downwardly and angularly extending portion embracing the upper portion of the front face of the tub and upon its rear side with downwardly-extending projections for engaging the tub, substantially as specified.
