POCKET CASE.
V. SOLAMONE.
Patented Oct. 12,1897.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
VINCENZO SOLAMONE, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK. v
POCKET-CASE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No.'591,548, dated October 12, 1897.
Application filed April 3, 1897- Serial No. 630,515. (No model.)
To a/ZZ whom t 11i/wy concern.-
Be it known that I, VINCENZO SoLAMoNE, a subject of the King of Italy, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pocket Cases, of which the following is a full and complete specication, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertainsto make and use the same.
This invention relates to pocket-cases; and
the object thereof is to provide an improved box or case for pocket use which is adapted to serve as a holder for a note-book, also as a cigar or cigarette holder and as a match box or receptacle, and for holding combs and mirrors or other articles, a further object being to provide an improved device of this class which is simple in construction and operation and which may be carried in a coat or vest pocket.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specication, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are desig-4 nated by the same numerals of reference'in each of the views, and in which? Figure l is a side view of my improved pocket-case, the cover being open; Fig. 2, an end view thereof, and Fig. 3 a side view.
In the practice of my invention I provide an oblong box or casing which is composed of a side 5, a back 6, end pieces 7, and a hinged side or cover 8, and the hinged side or cover S is provided at or near its free edge with a transverse plate 9, which is hinged thereto and which is adapted to close the front of the box or casing when the cover is in a closed position.
The hinged side or cover is connected with the box or casing at 10, and secured to one end thereof is a wire or rod 11, which is con nected therewith adjacent to the inner or hinged edge thereof, and this device is intended to hold a note-book l2 in position on said hinged cover.
The boxlor casing is provided with a main longitudinal partition 13 and adjacent to one end thereof with a transverse partition 14, by means of which two receptacles or compartments 15 and 16 are formed.
The receptacle or compartment 15 is intendedras a match-box and the receptacle or compartment 16 as a cigar or cigarette holder, and secured to the upper surface of the longitudinal partition-plate are two straps 17 and 18, and these straps are secured to said partition-plate at the ends thereof, as shown at 19, and at a short distance from one end, as shown at 20, and the shorter portions of said strap are intended to hold a comb 21, while the longer portions thereof are designed to hold a small mirror 22, the frame of which is shown at 23.
This device is simple in construction and operation, and my invention is not limited to the method herein described of connecting the note-bookp12 with the hinged cover of the box or case, the only object in this connection being to provide a suitable device by means of which a note-book may be detachably connected with the cover of the box or casing, the form and construction of the parts being such that when the box or casing is closed the note-book will fit between the cover and the partition-plate 13.
-It will also be apparent that other changes inv and modifications of the construction herein described may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages.-
v Having fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. A pocket-case, comprising a box which is open at one side, and at the front and the back of which is provided with a hinged cover to which is secured a longitudinal plate which is adapted to close the open front of the case, said case being also provided with a longitudinal partition-plate between which and one side thereof is placed a transverse partitionplate, and said longitudinal partition-plate being provided with straps for holding a comb, and other articles, substantially as shown and described.
2. A pocket-case, comprising a box which is open at one side, and at the front-and the back of which is provided with a'hinged cover to which is secured a longitudinal plate which is adapted to close the open front of the case, `said case being also provided with a longitu- IOO dinal partition-plate between which and one In testimony that I claim the foregoing as side `thereof is placed a transverse partitioninyinvention I have signed my naine, in pres- Io plate, and said longitudinal partition-plate enee of the subscribing witnesses, this 1st being provided with straps for holding a day of April, 1897.
