HUGH H. BYRNE, OF LA CROSSE. WISCONSIN.
TOILET-CASE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 24, 1906.
Application filed September 7, 1905. Serial No. 277,465.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HUGH H. BYRNE, a citizen of the United States, residin at La Crosse, in the county of La Crosse and tate of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toilet-Cases, of which the following is a specification.
For a full description of the invention and the merits thereof and also to acquire a knowledge of the details of construction of the means for effecting the result reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a top plan view of a toilet case or box embodying the invention, the same being open. Fig. 2 is alongitudinal sectional View. Fig. 3 isa transverse sectional view, the case closed.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the followin description and indicated g the drawings by the same This invention embodies a novel form of toilet case or box for travelers, the same being particularly designed to afford a convenient arrangement of compartments adapted to receive toilet articles or the like, the case being adapted to be readily placed in a satchel, trunk, or suit-case, as found desirable by the user.
In the drawings the numeral 1 designates the body or case proper, the same having a hinged or similarly-connected cover 2. The cover 2 is provided with a flap 3 to overlap a side of the case, and this flap has two or more tabs 4 with fasteners attached to engage suitable means on a side of the box to hold the cover closed. The box is interiorly divided into a number of compartments, a main com partment 5, two transverse smaller compartments 6, and a single transverse compartment 7, having the capacity, preferably, of the two small compartments 6. Transverse partitions 8 and 9 form the transverse compartments 6 and 7, a longitudinal partition 10 separating the compartments 6 and connecting the partitions 8 and 9 at a point between the ends thereof. The main compartment 5 is provided with an annular partition 11, forming an inner auxiliary compartment 12, which is adapted to receive a razor, strop, shaving-stick, nail-file, comb, brush, or the like. The compartment 5 comprises the space between the partition 11. and the sides of the box, and this compartment is adapted to receive collars or similar articles. The
smaller transverse compartments 6 may be utilized to receive a soap-box, tooth-powder,
or toilet accessories of a similar nature. The larger transverse compartment 7 is suitable for holding ties, &c. All of the partitions 8 and 11 terminate at the upper edges some distance below the upper edges of the sides of the case, and this admits of the use of the. I flaps 13 on the under sides of the cover 2,said flaps being adapted to overlap and hold cuffs, ties, stationery, or the like upon the under side of said cover. The flaps 13 are secured over the articles covered thereby by means of suitable straps 14, and when the said flaps 13 7o.
hold articles of some bulk it will be seen that the space left above the partitions in the body of the case will be taken up -and the flaps will serve to prevent displacement of any articles in the compartments 5, 6, 7, and p 12. The partition 9 and one end of the annular partition 11 are brought together in meeting relation, and the meetin portions of the partitions are cut away, as s own at 15,
so that the handle of the brush placed in the 30 compartment 12 may extend across the upper portion of the compartments 6. The back of the brush may thus be disposed flush with the upper edge portions of the partitions 9 and 11, and the handle of the brush 5 would under certain conditions serve to hold articles in the compartments .6 from rattling or play, which would be undesirable for ob- Vious reasons. The longitudinal partition 10 terminates at its upper edge flush with the 9 lower edge of the cut-away portion 15, so that said partition 10 will not interfere with the disposition of the brush in a manner before described.
It will of course be understood that a toiletcase constructed as hereinbefore set forth may be suitably finished according to the whim of the manufacturer and the price for which the article may be sold and may be used. on the bureau or in any similar way.
Havin thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is 1. In a toilet-case, the combination of a body, a cover therefor, flaps attached to the under sides of the cover, means for securing 1 5 said flaps so as to inclose articles therein, the
ICC
body of the case being divided into a plural-h ity of transverse compartments, and a main; compartment, and an annular partition ar' ranged in the main compartment and forming a separate compartment 4 for holding toilet articles.
2. In a toilet-case, the combination of a main compartment5ha'ving the annular parhody,.a cover therefor, flaps attached to the tition 11 therein disposed with one end of under sides of the cover, straps for securing said annular partition against the adjacent said flaps so as to inclose articles therein, a transverse partition 9 the central portion of pluralityof partitions dividing the body ofthe partition 9 and the adjacent end of the the case interiorly into transverse compartpartition 11 being cut away as shown at 15,
ments, a longitudinal partition separating and the longitudinal partition 10 separating one of the transverse compartments into two the compartments 6 and having its upper smaller compartments, an annular partition l edge flush with the cut-away portion 15 of in one of the compartments, and means for l the partitions aforesaid.
